This CTP adds and updates the following features:

1. Run As Normal User (RANU) - when the Visual Studio SDK is already installed on a computer, a user with non-administrator permissions now can create a package by using the wizard, and then press F5 to open the new package in the experimental hive.
2. Changes to DSL Tools include new path editing. In DSL Tools, paths are used in a DSL definition to specify diagram element maps and explorer behavior. This CTP adds richer path editing to the DSL Designer, in the form of a drop-down tree control. You can now either type the path syntax, or you can display a tree view of all the valid paths from the current starting point.
3. Release month, for example 2007.04, is removed from the SDK folder structure and Microsoft? was added to the VS SDK shortcut and root folder name.

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Beta 1

The Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Beta 1 is a preview release of the latest version of the .NET Framework. Many ISVs, enterprises and Microsoft product teams are successfully building on the new features Windows Workflow Foundation (WF), Windows Communication Foundation (WCF), Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and Windows CardSpace in the .NET Framework 3.0. Microsoft plans to continue to invest in the .NET Framework developer platform and in support of existing users the .NET Framework 3.5 has a minimal number of breaking changes. So that existing applications built for .NET Framework 2.0 or .NET Framework 3.0 should continue to run without requiring changes.

The .NET Framework 3.5 adds new features in several major technology areas; including:
Deep integration of Language Integrated Query (LINQ) and data awareness
ASP.NET AJAX for quickly creating more efficient, more interactive and highly-personalized Web experiences that work across all the most popular browsers
New web protocol support for building WCF services including AJAX, JSON, REST, POX, RSS, ATOM and several new WS-* standards
Full tooling support for WF, WCF and WPF including the new workflow-enabled services technology
New classes in the base class library (BCL) for the .NET Framework 3.5 address the most common customer requests.

.NET Framework 3.5 is planned to release at the end of 2007 and will ship with Visual Studio code name ?Orcas? and will also continue to be available for separate download from MSDN.

This supplement fixes a bug with the ADO.NET EDM Wizard in Visual Studio Code name Orcas Beta1 where empty CSDL, MSL and SSDL files are generated after the wizard completes.

PREREQUISITE:
Visual Studio Code name Orcas Beta1 running on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2 (SP2) or Windows Server 2003 or Windows Vista.

Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats

By installing the Compatibility Pack in addition to Microsoft Office 2000, Office XP, or Office 2003, you will be able open, edit, and save files using the file formats new to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007. The Compatibility Pack can also be used in conjunction with the Microsoft Office Word Viewer 2003, Excel Viewer 2003, and PowerPoint Viewer 2003 to view files saved in these new formats. If you had previously downloaded the April SDK and were using XACT, you should download this new version. The most up-to-date version of XACT is Windows version 9.18.944.0.

This DirectX SDK release contains updates to tools, utilities, samples, documentation, and runtime debug files for x64 and x86 platforms.

CLR Profiler for the .NET Framework 2.0

The CLR Profiler includes a number of very useful views of the allocation profile, including a histogram of allocated types, allocation and call graphs, a time line showing GCs of various generations and the resulting state of the managed heap after those collections, and a call tree showing per-method allocations and assembly loads.

Project 2007 SDK: Software Development Kit

The Microsoft Office Project 2007 SDK is a release for solution providers, value-added resellers, and other developers to learn about the new Project Server 2007 platform, and how to extend and integrate Project Server 2007 with other applications for enterprise project management (EPM). It features conceptual and "How to" articles, sample code, and programming references.

The download file for the Project 2007 SDK is updated from the RTM SDK download. The pj12ProjectSDK.exe download includes two HTML Help files: PJSDK2007.chm (conceptual topics and managed code reference), and pj12ReportingDB.chm (the Reporting Database Schema reference). OLAPCubeSchemas.xls is a Microsoft Office Excel file that lists the dimensions, measures, and properties of the 14 Project Server OLAP cubes. Additional references include the default Project Guide files and the XML schemas for Project 2007 and the ChangeXML parameter for Statusing methods in the Project Server Interface (PSI).

The Project Portfolio Server 2007 schemas include the AccountData and AccountIndex database references. For more information, see the Project Portfolio Server 2007 Developer Reference.

The download also includes the following complete sample projects that relate to topics in the SDK: ChangeXML Utility, Custom Web Parts, two Impersonation samples, Login Demo, OLP Example, Project Workspace, ProjTool (a tool with source code for testing and development), PSI Extensions, Report Pack, and Test Event Handler. The sample projects use Microsoft Visual C# and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. The seven Report Pack samples use Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services.
