20 of the Worst PC Setups - October 2016

I’m sure at some point you’ve had a bad PC setup. Maybe moving into a new place, waiting for a new desk to arrive or you just ran out of room. I can remember my horrible PC setups from when I was living at the dorms in college. If you have ever ventured over to the Shitty Battlestations sub-reddit you will find a lot of horrible PC setups. We will are going to pick 20 each month and feature them as 20 of the Worst PC setups for that month. Here are some of the bad ones from Octboer!

Aerocool DS230 Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Compact gaming PCs have taken off in a really big way this last couple of years and companies such as Cooler Master and BitFenix have done really well with their miniITX solutions, proving a popular choice for LAN gamers, HTPC users or with those looking to build a compact gaming system for their bedroom or to go alongside their big screen TV. There are many new players to the cube chassis market this year and this is a great thing, it’s always good to see companies trying to compete, out do each other and improve on designs because at the end of the day it’s often the consumer who wins. The big question is, does the Dead Silence have what it takes to mix it with some of the biggest names in the industry?

We’ve reviewed a few gaming chassis from Aerocool in the past and while their brand name might not carry as much weight as something like Corsair, at least here in the UK, they’ve actually produced some of the best cases we’ve seen here at eTeknix such as their BX-500 and Xpredator and I’m hoping that the DS offers as many cool features as their other gaming series chassis. So lets cut right to it and see what Aerocools DS has to offer.

It is worth pointing out that Aerocool make two main models of this chassis, one with a side panel window and one without. We have the one without the side panel window, but Aerocool have also provided us with a replacement window side panel so that this review effectively covers both editions, but please not that it doesn’t come with both the solid and windowed side panels at retail.

Cooler Master MasterPulse Pro Gaming Headset Review

This is where the CM MasterPulse Pro set really stands out: gaming. The extensive bass response along with the ability to go LOUD allows you to crank up the volume to hear the details while still getting rocked with crystal clear and thunderous explosions. Because of the prodigious output, it's very easy to hear quiet sounds you might normally miss, while also placing things quite easily in terms of direction. The 7.1 surround feature will likely end up personal preference as it adds a feeling of spaciousness, but can also make it harder to hear quiet details since it adds so much ambiance. It's hard to describe, and I'm not sure if I like it or not. The various audio presets (named gaming, music, and movies) are a personal preference as well. I found the "movies" preset was actually the most enjoyable in game, if any was to be used. Long story short? These rock for gaming.

Now Shipping: AMD Radeon Pro WX Series

Back in July AMD announced the Radeon Pro WX series. Part of a broader rebranding effort for AMD’s professional grade graphics cards – moving away from the FirePro brand and making everything part of the Radeon family – the WX series would also mark the first use of AMD’s latest-generation Polaris architecture in their pro cards. At the time of their announcement, AMD had not finalized the card specifications or launch date beyond Q4, but as of this week the cards are finally reaching AMD’s partners and retailers, and the final specifications are being released.

The ASUS X99-E-10G WS Motherboard Review: 10GBase-T Networking with Intel’s X550-AT2

One significant motherboard update that has been drawn out over time has been the integration of 10 Gigabit Ethernet on consumer level motherboards, and specifically copper based 10GBase-T that is backwards compatible with the majority of home networks using RJ-45. While the traction of 10G is scaling in business and enterprise, cost remains a big barrier to home and prosumer networking, but also consumer based implementations.
