2018 iPad Review

This consumption device wants to be a creative one, too, but is a Pencil enough? Just like last year's iPad, this year's model is still the best tablet at its price point for watching videos, playing games, reading emails, and browsing the Web. But by adding Pencil support and extolling the device's virtues for educators, Apple has tried to position this new release as an entry-level machine not just for consuming content but for creating it.

In 2017, iPad sales grew year over year for the first time since 2013. Obviously, Apple improved the iPad Pro by introducing a 120Hz display, but it might have been that year's low-end, $329 iPad—which we had good things to say about—that finally started to move the needle upward.

25 Great Games You Can Play on Laptops and Budget PCs

Just because you don't have access to the fanciest gear around doesn't mean you have to play subpar games. Even if you're on a potato computer or low-end PC, there's plenty out there for you to enjoy. Here are some of Kotaku's top picks for quality games that should run on almost anything.

From the makers of FTL comes a turn-based game that you can think of as kaiju chess. Highly addictive, yet brutal, Into The Breach asks players to protect cities from underground aliens. Often, matches come down to how much you’re willing to sacrifice just to live through another day. Randomized power-ups, optional challenges, and unlockable mechs make Into The Breach extremely replayable, too.

ADATA XPG Gammix S10 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Review

ADATA's XPG Gammix S10 M.2 NVMe SSD is aimed toward value-conscious buyers that are looking for more than SATA can offer for about the same price. The XPG Gammix S10 delivers on price and unexpectedly delivers in a big way on aesthetics. The XPG Gammix S10 is in our opinion the best-looking M.2 NVMe SSD we've ever seen.

The XPG Gammix S10 has an integrated, eye-catching and very functional heat sink. This heat sink is a bit more practical than some of the larger ones that we've seen before. The sleek-looking XPG Gammix S10 looks and feels like it would have a high price-tag, but it is very affordable. In-fact it is the most affordable 4-lane NVMe SSD on the market.

AOC AGON AG322QCX: 32-inch 1440p 144Hz FreeSync = Just $470

When it comes to gaming monitors I'm like a fancy Englishmen drinking tea, holding my little finger in the air and slowing sipping it, because I'm posh, or something. I can't do 1080p anymore as I haven't had a 1080p monitor for close to 10 years now.

The last gaming monitor that I had with a native 1920x1080 resolution would have to be the old Samsung S27A950D, the 27-inch 1080p 120Hz monitors from years and years ago now, just before joining the ranks of TweakTown. I went over to the HP LP3065 just after that, a monstrous 30-inch display with an eye-popping native resolution, at the time, of 2560x1600 with a beautiful 16:10 aspect ratio built with only 60Hz. The move going back to 60Hz really hurt, as I was so used to 120Hz, but the resolution was king.

ASRock DeskMini GTX1060 (Z370) Review

The latest in ASRock's DeskMini line, the DeskMini GTX1060 packs Intel's Z370 chipset into a case so small it could be a soda bottle. At just 2.7 liters in volume, the ASRock DeskMini GTX1060 is set to take the small form factor market by storm.

What could be better than a beefy, powerful custom system running the latest hardware Intel and NVIDIA have to offer? A TINY, powerful custom system running the latest hardware from Intel and NVIDIA. As last year has shown, six cores with twelve threads is a lot of power, and the Z370 platform has delivered on those power promises. Now, with the Z370 well into maturity, the inevitable has come to pass: miniaturization. The ASRock DeskMini GTX/RX has arrived to take Z370 to a new level, a new and very small level.

The STX motherboard that lies at the heart of the DeskMini GTX/RX is literally a fraction the size of its ATX counterparts. However, the Z370 chipset this tiny board runs is fully capable of delivering that six-core, twelve-thread performance of Intel's Coffee Lake. Boasting a case volume of just 2.7 liters, the ASRock DeskMini GTX/RX comes equipped with an MXM graphics card from NVIDIA, up to a GTX 1080. The model I am examining today is equipped with a GTX 1060.

Enermax NEOChanger RGB Pump & Reservoir Combo Review

When one thinks "custom watercooling," a small subset of manufacturers and vendor names most often come to mind. Enermax is hoping to add its name to that repertoire with bold new components like the NEOChanger RGB pump/reservoir system.

By combining a powerful, high flowing pump with an integrated cylinder reservoir, the need to purchase and configure these components separately leads to fewer decisions to be made in the online shopping cart, while also eliminating the possibility of leaks.

G-Technology G-Drive Thunderbolt 3 8TB Review

Premium entrant into the external storage arena. Though solid-state drives (SSDs) have made a big splash inside the PC, the market for external PC storage remains dominated by the humble mechanical disk. The reason is simple enough: capacity, and anyone looking to store more than 1TB invariably heads towards a pre-packaged solution housing a large-capacity 3.5in drive - a tried-and-trusted combination.

That's not to say these external enclosures are boring. Seagate upped the design stakes with its USB 3.1 Type-C-powered Innov8, LaCie's efforts can hardly be described as ugly, and now a 'new' entrant vies for your style points and wallet. Enter the G-Technology G-Drive Thunderbolt 3.

Get Maximum Fortnite Performance: 'Epic' Mode With 10 Graphics Cards

Fortnite is the hottest game of 2018. We pulled out our mainstream gaming PC and 10 graphics cards to see how to run it at its top ("Epic") quality settings.

How big a sensation is Fortnite at the moment? It's addicting the NBA. It's setting records for concurrent numbers of players. It's making our colleagues lose more sleep than they'd likely care to admit. Understatement of the year: Fortnite has enjoyed a whole lot of success since Epic Games added a free-to-play Battle Royale mode last September, building on the already available Save the World mode (PvE).

Mac Pro 2019 release date, news and rumors

Digging into Apple’s new Mac Pro 2019, its first modular computer for pros and prosumers. It’s been several years since we’ve seen any kind of considerable upgrade or update to Apple’s Mac Pro. However, almost a year ago, Apple acknowledged the outcry for support of the Mac Pro by teasing that it’s working on an ‘upgradeable’ and ‘modular’ Mac Pro for 2019.

Apple then supported this statement further with a press release for the new iMac Pro sale date in December 2017. So, we know that a Mac Pro is in active development, but unfortunately we won’t see it until 2019.

PC Building Simulator Review (Early Access Phase)

Is PC Building Simulator a worthy game to add to your library? As it is now, which is very early in its early access phase, I do lean toward a positive recommendation, but I am not completely there, and there would be qualifications to it as well. The most significant qualification in my mind is its current very low-stress design. For just sitting down and doing something to relax, it is pretty good, but if you want a challenge, this is not a game for you in its current form. All communication with the customers being one-sided is also a bit disappointing currently, but I can see that coming down to who the player is. The graphics will not blow your mind, but there is no reason for that to be a necessity. They do their job well enough and if I must give a criticism it is that the materials of some products do not always look accurate to life, but again, photorealism is not required. There is no story to speak of, although the email conversations can be amusing if you read them. The gameplay is enjoyable but is almost void of stress and pressure. I do hope that will change in time, and would even prefer it if this came as a difficulty slider of difficulty toggles, so one could always have a game going to just relax and build to. This is not a bad place to start from, and I can see there being lots of potential here. Hopefully, that potential will be tapped to make this a more engaging experience as we progress through the early access phase. I am looking forward to seeing what comes in the future.

SK hynix SC311 512GB SSD Review

SK hynix are one of the very few SSD manufacturers in the enviable position of being able to produce all the major components of a drive - controller, NAND and cache - in-house, allowing them to control every aspect of the drives hardware while keeping a firm hand on production costs. The latest consumer drive range to emerge from SK hynix is the SC311 using the company's V3 48-layer 3D TLC NAND technology.
