Case Mod Friday: Xenomorph

Welcome to another Case Mod Friday showcase! This week we have Akira749's “Xenomorph” build. Here is what he had to say about it, "Since I first saw the 1979 Alien movie, I've been amazed by the creature created by H.R. Giger. In may of this year we were celebrating the 35th year of the release of the movie. So in march, I told to myself that I should push myself to do the themed build to celebrate this but I was already in the process of the Hurrikaine build so the pace of this possible build did come to almost a stop. In fact at this time I was only looking at THE case that could host this build. Then on may 12th, H.R. Giger passed away.....That striked me so hard that at this moment I knew I had to do it....not to honor the Alien franchise but to Honor the man behind the creature.

Gigabyte G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 960 4GB Graphics Card Review

What is the main difference between a guy getting a haircut, and a girl getting a haircut? Well, for one thing, whenever a guy gets a haircut, it costs $10, and the results are blatantly obvious. On the other hand, whenever a girl gets a haircut, it costs $300, and looks exactly the same as it was before. Naturally, you will probably agree with me if you are a guy, and if you are a girl, please feel free to send a complaint to us by clicking the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of this page (All emails will go to the Editor-in-Chief, who is... well, me). A couple of weeks ago, one of my female friends enthusiastically messaged me, saying she got a haircut, promising I could actually tell the difference this time. To prove her point, she also sent me a selfie, which turned out to look exactly the same as it was before. On a more serious note, I did look closely and noticed the volume of hair has been reduced, and some layering techniques were used, but it did take some effort to me to correctly identify these elements. When I posted the photos of Gigabyte's G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 960 4GB on the forums last month, some say it looked exactly the same as the G1 Gaming GeForce GTX 970 4GB I reviewed back in January. Of course, any enthusiast will know there is massive performance difference between an NVIDIA GTX 960 and GTX 970 based card. Furthermore, with texture demanding titles, there is even a considerable performance difference between a 2GB card and the 4GB variant we have on hand today. Exactly how much? Well, we took two cream-of-the-crop G1 Gaming samples, a duo of reference NVIDIA specification boards with the same GPU, along with the previous mainstream performance champion, the GTX 760, and benchmarked them all against each other to find out. Just like my friend's hair, looking very similar does not mean they are the same thing.

Intel 750 Series SSD Review

Ffffffaaaassssstttttttt... that's enough, right? Mechanical hard drives have certainly served consumers well over the years. They sit in our PCs, spinning away day and night without issue. Other tech has come and gone, but still the HDD has remained although in recent years SSDs have taken a chunk of the market for those looking at performance over capacity. The key term there is performance as pretty early on in their lifespan SSDs hit the limit of SATA connectors at around 560MB/s. Since then we’ve seen PCIe used a little, new motherboards have adopted M.2 in its various form factors and then there is the tech that never was, SATA-Express. Recently Intel launched their latest SSD which aims to lead the market down a new path (NVMe) with the bonus of performance well in excess of anything we have seen from M.2 and SATA to date. Intel Showcases RealSense 3D Camera Apps, Devices, Cutting-Edge User Interfaces At New York Event

Intel gathered a number of software developer and hardware manufacturing partners together this week in New York to showcase the latest technologies and innovations that Intel's RealSense 3D camera technology can enable. From new interactive gaming experiences to collaboration, 3D mapping and gesture control, the technology holds promise that could someday reinvent how we interact with PCs.

The camera technology itself integrates a depth sensor and a full color 1080p HD camera together with standard technologies like dual array mics, but with an SDK, processing engine and 3rd party software that can allow the camera module to sense environmental variables, more like humans do...

MSI Product Preview Including the Cubi Mini PC Kit

Earlier this month I took a quick two day vacation so I could visit some of my partners in the computer industry. One of those stops was at the MSI US HQ where they introduced me to some of the new stuff they had planned for 2015.

Of course, being that this is Hardware Asylum I was most interested in hearing their plans for the next Intel processor launch and how that would impact their motherboard designs. While some of the specific details were hush hush they did indicate a change in how the motherboards would be colored. Several years ago MSI segmented their motherboards into different classes and assigned them a color. OC was Yellow, Gaming was red etc.. It would seem in 2015 those color choices are going to be distilled even more in flavor of a simple Black.

Silicon Power S80 480GB Review

The market for SATA solid state drives has matured. Over the last couple of years, the price for the drives has been in a steady decline. If you have been keeping up with our SSD reviews, you would no doubt notice that there are many good budget SSDs on the market today. Many of the budget SSDs such as OCZ ARC 100, Crucial MX100, and Samsung 850 EVO, deliver excellent performance at affordable price. As technology advances, the reliability for the SSDs have also gotten much better. Thus, there is absolutely no reason that you would not want to install an SSD into your system as primary boot device.

A quick search online and we find that at around $100, we are able to get a good 250GB drive that used to cost at around $300 a couple of years ago. So price is not a major concern either. As mentioned, there are tons of great drive for the budget market. The OCZ ARC 100, Crucial MX100, and Samsung 850 EVO are all great choices to buy. The Silicon Power S80 is another drive that is looking to enter this competitive market of budget SSDs.

Topre Type Heaven

When it comes to picking out a mechanical keyboard there are nearly as many options as there are people. When it comes to what keyswitch you prefer most of you think of just the color options that Cherry switches have but more and more other keyswitch types have been coming into the picture. With that you need to look at the switch type before even getting into colors. A good example of this are Topre’s. We covered a variation on them with the Novatouch but today I’m going to be taking a look at a Topre keyboard directly from Topre, the Type Heaven. This is one of those weird situations where this specific keyboard is considered an entry level Topre keyboard when compared to other Topre keyboards, but that puts it up with higher end Cherry keyboards. So today I want to check out what it is all about and see if this is an option that you should be looking at when shopping for a new mechanical keyboard.
