For those of us who have more than one PC at home, networking offers a great way to share resources such as files, printers, and internet connections. If your PC's are all located in one room, or relatively close to each other, then networking them is a simple affair, requiring only the cables to be made or purchased, the hub, switch or router to be installed, and a little light configuration to be performed.

If however, you need to network a PC that's on another floor, and running a cable to it is difficult, or have a laptop that you would like to be able to use almost anywhere, then the obvious choice is to go wireless.
