I was really impressed with the quality of captured video at highest quality. The Radeon will has default capture settings to MPEG files but will capture to .AVIs if desired. This is not a big deal in that .AVI files creates larger files and require faster hard drives. I have had difficultly in the past capturing .AVIs on a Seagate 5400rpm hard drive and I suspect that may have been some of the problem. I have also found MPEGs are easily edited. I should note that video capture is dependent on the overall system including CPU, memory, and hard drive size/performance.
