All-round Deluxe PC - November 2017

The all-round Deluxe PC will last you a few years without requiring any upgrades. It is a bit more expensive, but is very complete as well. Using the internet, gaming, business applications, photo and video editing - all of these are possible on a good all-round PC, and you should never feel that you are lacking in performance for any of those activities.

This means a good processor and graphics card from the upper mid-range segment. Fast, yet affordable. You also need enough RAM and storage space, not to mention an attractive chassis and reliable power supply that can last several years. Of course you need a quality monitor, mouse and keyboard, as these are used very frequently.

This PC will cost more than the standard all-round PC, but it is also more powerful and has higher-end components. If this exceeds your budget somewhat, then you can have a look at out standard All-round PC instead.

ASRock X370 Gaming-ITX/ac AMD AM4 Motherboard Review

Today we are testing the ASRock X370 Gaming-ITX/ac, the first AMD Ryzen motherboard in ITX format on OCinside. The AMD AM4 ITX motherboard has been tested and overclocked with an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 and an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X CPU. The ITX motherboard results and the features almost match the large ATX AM4 motherboards. Corsair ML120 Pro RGB Review

Corsair ML140 Pro RGB Fan Kit Review

When I reviewed the Corsair LL RGB series of fans, I came away thoroughly impressed, as they offered great looking RGB effects and moved a good amount of air while remaining very quiet. The Corsair LL RGB series of fans would go on to earn the Legit Reviews Recommended Award, but I did fathom when Corsair would take the next step and bring RGB lighting to their incredible series of ML Pro fans, which feature magnetic levitation bearings and custom designed rotors to allow for low-noise, high airflow operation. Corsair ML (Magnetic Levitation) Pro fans are considered some of the best case fans on the market by enthusiasts, with Corsair touting them as being the fans NASA would develop for PC. Gigabyte Z370N WiFi Review

An almost-perfect Mini ITX board. Intel's consumer CPU focus in the first half of 2017 has been on maximising the efficiency of its laptop chips. We can argue for this point because, lately, most of the firm's innovation has been centred on the U-series. Now offering four cores and eight threads hewn from the Kaby Lake architecture, these 15W silicon supremos put desktop efficiency to shame.

The enthusiast and DIY market has had something to shout about at last, though. You see, the chip giant debuted 8th Generation Core Coffee Lake-based chips just last month, packing up to six cores and 12 threads at similar thermal and wattage levels as the previous generation. But getting your hands on such a platform also requires investing in a Z370 chipset motherboard, meaning it's a clean break, as the 7th Generation Core processors won't work in the new platform.

But that's OK for a number of folks upgrading from, say, a PC that's three to five years old. To them compatibility between generations is an academic concern, so the only question that needs answering is which chip and board to get? You can go normal ATX, you can go a bit smaller and look at Micro ATX, but fully appreciating the overall platform-level efficiencies baked into new architectures, why not run with Mini ITX?

Team TForce Cardea NVMe SSD 240GB review: gekoelde SSD

The M.2 size standard for SSDs is the result of trying to fit hard drives into the ever-slimming laptops without compromising on the bandwidth. Within the world of desktops, this new standard causes a heating issue as the modules are placed flat on the motherboard, where there is little airflow. Team appear to have a solution in their new Cardea-SSD.

In technical terms, the TForce Cardea is not unlike the Kingston KC1000 and the Corsair Force MP500. It is based on the 15nm flash memory module of Toshiba and has the Phison PS5007 controller. The standout feature of it is the red heatsink that covers the entire M.2 module.
