Amazon.com customers looking to place advanced orders for Microsoft´s Windows XP operating system were out of luck Tuesday as the product listing disappeared from the online store.

Amazon had started taking preorders for Windows XP last week, company spokeswoman Ling Hong said Monday. The company typically takes orders for software before it is released, as it had done with Office XP, she said.
