16-Way NVIDIA GeForce vs. AMD Radeon Linux Comparison - August 2017

Last week were the benchmark results showing how the open-source Radeon Linux driver is becoming increasingly competitive with NVIDIA's driver and is very competitive OpenGL-wise with the Radeon Software Windows driver. Here are some more NVIDIA and Radeon benchmarks today under Linux with each vendor's latest drivers using sixteen different graphics cards.

Alphacool Eisblock HDX-2 M.2 SSD Cooler Review

SSD drives are getting faster each year but with that speed also come some additional issues which users try to solve. Two of the most popular issues are high drive temperature and limited bandwidth because of motherboard design.

To help with mentioned issues, Alphacool designed the Eisblock HDX M.2 SSD cooler series. In this review we will focus on the HDX-2 so PCIe version of the cooler.

Additionally we will check performance of the HDX-2 in RAID what I hope will be interesting.

AMD admits that Ryzen has difficulty with Linux

Apparently when it fires off too many compilation processes, the machine suffers from what AMD calls a "performance marginality problem".It appears to only be affecting some Ryzen customers and only those on Linux. It is not an issue with Threadripper and Epyc processors are unaffected. The numbers are so small that they will be dealing with the problem on a customer-by-customer basis, and its future consumer products will see better Linux testing/validation. It is calling for Ryzen customers believed to be affected by the problem to give AMD Customer Care a bell. The Ryzen segmentation faults on Linux occur with many, parallel compilation workloads. These are not the workloads most Linux users will be firing off on a frequent basis unless intentionally running scripts like ryzen-test/kill-ryzen. Generally, Ryzen Linux boxes have been working out when they are not operating under torture. AMD's analysis has also found that these Ryzen segmentation faults aren't isolated to a particular motherboard vendor.

Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 Orange

I think everyone knows at this point that I’ve been on a big ITX kick for a while now. But sometimes when you need to build something completely crazy you have to go bigger. I did that with our Fridge build years ago. But what cases are a good pick to do that now? Well, it just so happens that I’ve had the Dark Base Pro 900 in the orange model from Be Quiet! sitting around the office for FAR too long. It’s about time I build something in it and see what it is all about. With a tempered glass side panel, orange highlights, and a lot of modularity it has the potential to be a great case. Let’s take a closer look and see if it is.

Corsair K95 Platinum review: king, emperor, admiral

It's been nearly four years since the release of Corsair's Vengeance K70 and Vengeance K95. Corsair was the first big manufacturer to use the floating key design with these keyboards. With this design the aluminum base plate is also used as a top panel, which means that part of the switches is laid bare and the keycaps seem to float above the keyboard. It turned out to be a hit, because not only were the aforementioned keyboards very popular, but other manufacturers also followed in Corsair's footsteps. The K-series was later expanded with RGB models and now the newest flagship from Corsair has reached our test lab; the K95 Platinum.

The difference between the Vengeance K70 and the Vengeance K95 was that that latter keyboard also featured 18 separate macro keys to the left of the normal keys. Corsair has opted for different approach on the K95 Platinum. Separate macro keys are back again, however in this case there are only six of them. This makes the keyboard more compact than the Vengeance K95, however it remains a huge device nonetheless.

Corsair positions the K95 Platinum in the top segment of mechanical keyboards. There are few keyboards available on the market that are more expensive than this model .The variant that we tested for this review is the model with Cherry MX Speed switches, however a version with Cherry MX Brown switches is also available. Both models have an MSRP of no less than 200 pounds. In the overview below you can find the current retails prices of the model we reviewed.

Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi RGB CPU Cooler Review

Everyone loves a collaboration, right? So when the news broke back in May this year that Cryorig were teaming up with NZXT to supercharge their already impressive H7 CPU cooler, our request went in for a sample as soon as they landed.

The result of this project is the Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi… A cooler that boasts a tweaked design to improve performance, plus the addition of RGB lighting controlled by the NZXT CAM software.

GeIL EVO X DDR4-3200 16GB Memory Kit Review

As we’ve said before 2017 seems to be the year of RGB, almost all parts of our PC’s now come with RGB options. One of the first company’s to come out with RGB memory was GeIL. Their EVO X DDR4 kits really pushed the envelope and many other memory makers followed suit. While this kits are a little older they are still a great choice when adding RGB lighting to the inside of your case and their performance is quite good as well. Today we will be checking out the GEX416GB3200C16DC kit which is a 16GB (2x8GB) kit operating at 3200 MHz with timings of 16-16-16-36 at 1.35V. Let’s take a look at this kit and see if it adds the extra bling to our system that we were looking for!

Kingston DCP1000 NVMe SSD Enthusiast Testing in RAID 0 – 2 Mil IOPS and 14GB/s

Nothing whatsoever need to be said of performance and scaling when we see the single DCP1000 at 7GB/s jump to 14GB/s when two drives are set up in RAID. This is exactly the same when we see IOPS jump from 1 million to 2 million. This is a monster drive and definitely the SSD for those builders looking for an NVMe SSD capable of extreme performance.

PrimoChill Praxis WetBench Rreview

Chassis you can find in many models and designs, chassis for modding, chassis for the DiY enthusiast and testing however are more scarce. Hence I was looking for an easy to use chassis where we can pop on and off hardware components. I ended at the USA based PrimoChill, they have offered the Praxis series wetbench for a number of years now. We test the unit and see if there is more to it than meets the eye. Granted, it's not a suitable product for everybody, but if it applies to you we can wholeheartedly recommend that you check this article out.

Razer Seiren Pro RZ05-0132 Microphone Review

The Razer Seiren Pro is a very versatile microphone. Armed with four pickup patterns with a choice of USB and XLR outputs & three 14mm condenser capsules. Naturally, the multi function of the microphone is suitable for people who want an all-in-one solution and have future readiness to increase the quality by using a mic preamp. While I would have like to say such microphones would be wasted for streamers and voice-overs who will use a single polar pattern, there are many times these users switch between cardioid and stereo polar pattern depending on their requirement at the time. Other polar patterns can be useful in certain scenarios such as group podcasting, round table conference, interviews and discussions. So if you are a person who has more than one usefulness either now or the potential future, you would at microphones such as this.

Ryzen Threadripper 1950X Performance First Look With Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition

While Ryzen helped propel AMD back to essentially performance parity with Intel Core series processors, Ryzen Threadripper offers the hope of surpassing even Intel's latest Core i9 Skylake-X family, with more core resources and PCIe connectivity at its disposal. As it turns out, however, our first hands-on experience with AMD Ryzen Threadripper wasn't afforded to us by the usual manufacturer press kit, but rather an OEM desktop system from Dell's Alienware Gaming PC division.

And today we're able to give you an early preview look at the performance of AMD's 16-core Ryzen Threadripper 1950X processor, courtesy of the Alienware Area-51 Threadripper Edition beastly gaming desktop PC...
