ASUS Radeon EAH6870 1GB Review
PureOverclock posted a review of the ASUS Radeon EAH6870 1GB graphics card

We've come to expect big things from ASUS, and their latest powerhouse is the Radeon EAH6870. It's a reference design for the most part, but it brings voltage tweaking capabilities to enthusiasts looking for something special. Boasting some strong gaming horsepower at a very competitive price, it sounds very tempting. Let's take a closer look at the ASUS Radeon EAH6870 1GB and see what it can do.

Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB Video Card Review
ThinkComputers.org posted Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 1GB Video Card Review

AMD’s 6800 Series cards are finally here! If you have been following the news over the past couple of weeks you know that today AMD will be launching the HD 6870 and HD 6850 graphics cards. These new cards are in no way a replacement for AMD’s 5800 Series of cards, but more or less a refresh. They are still built on 40nm, but it seems AMD has focused more on efficiency and some other refinements. With this refresh AMD hope to put themselves back in the graphics lead if they are not there already. Today we will be looking at the HD 6850 from our friends at Sapphire. This card features a clock speed of 775MHz for the core and 1000MHz for the memory. Let’s check it out!

Kitguru posted a review on the Sapphire Radeon HD6850 and HD6870 video cards

KitGuru is old in the tooth and likes naming conventions which don't change. With the launch of the Radeon HD 6000 series, AMD has altered its naming strategy. The high end cards will now be the 6900 series (due November) and the 6800 cards that we're looking at today, will actually be sold for less than £200 each, including VAT (we're guessing that's under $250 for our American readers). How much can any gamer get from a graphic card that costs so little?

Kitguru posted HIS HD6870 CrossFireX Review

AMD have been in charge of the DX11 battlefield since their HD5000 series cards were released last year. It took nVidia many more months to come to market with competitive solutions and while their GTX480 and GTX470 received a half hearted welcome, the GTX460 has literally taken the mid market by storm. Many partners have released custom solutions with enhanced coolers and clock speeds. The new AMD HD6870 has been released to tackle the GTX460's domination with similar pricing levels.

XFX HD6850 CrossFireX Review
Kitguru posted a review on XFX HD6850 CrossFireX

When nVidia released the GTX460, everyone was literally blown away - this was a mid range card that utterly dominated the market and delivered staggering levels of performance, particularly when overclocked. AMD had left a big hole in its range, from the 5770 to the 5850 - with only the lightweight 5830 offering any resistance in the £130 to £200 market. The headroom on nVidia's GTX460 card was incredible, with voltage tweakable solutions today hitting 1GHz on the core. AMD haven't been asleep on the job though and the new 6800 series is a direct reply to the serious questions the GTX460 has been asking.

AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 Video Card Review
Hi Tech Legion posted a review on the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and HD 6850 Video Cards

We usually see our first big launch coming from video card manufacturers and this year is no different than the last 10 years I have been in this business. AMD has announced the launch of their second generation DirectX 11 video cards codenamed "Barts" (this next line will be named after Northern Islands). These new video cards are still built on a 40nm the same as their predecessor "Cypress," but have a few upgrades to enhance their performance. AMD (formerly ATI) has updated their tessellation engine for improved DirectX 11 performance, enhanced image quality, via improved AA and AF, and optimized their existing architecture.

Neoseeker posted their AMD Radeon HD 6850 & HD 6870 Launch Review

AMD has launched their latest graphics cards designed to cater to the mainstream market, the AMD Radeon HD 6850 and HD 6870. Based on the 40nm Barts core, these cards are intended to deliver performance comparable to NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 460 and even 480 cards. Despite their higher model numbers, the new AMD cards are actually still below the HD 5870 in pecking order... at least at stock speeds!

AMD Radeon HD 6870 Review
TechSpot posted AMD Radeon HD 6870 Review

Today marks an overhaul with AMD launching two new graphics cards designed to tackle the GTX 460. The Radeon HD 6870 and 6850 are being presented as the new mid-range offerings on AMD's line-up with a suggested retail of $239 and $199.

Given the naming scheme, you'd expect the new cards to replace the existing Radeon HD 5870 and 5850, but that's not the case. The year-old Radeon HD 5870 and 5850 will be axed next month when AMD launches the Cayman-based Radeon HD 6970 and 6950 graphics cards. While the existing Radeon 5700 series is expected to take over the lower-end affordable graphics sector.

We expect the Radeon HD 6870 to be slightly slower than the 5870, while the Radeon HD 6850 should be slower than the 5850, just don't pay attention to the tricky naming. The new cards supposedly improve upon Radeon HD 5000 series with better DirectX 11 and enhanced display support, but perhaps most importantly they are set to offer a better value than Nvidia's GTX 460.

MSI R6870 Review
Vortez.co.uk posted a review on the MSI R6870 video card

A year on from the release of the Cypress based HD5870 and HD5850, AMD are looking at refreshing their line-up of cards with some new offerings. Any graphics card release is met by a certain level of hype and following the huge success of the HD5XXX series, consumers have every right to expect more great things from AMD. However, in a confusing turn of events, today's release is aimed at targeting the mid-range market as opposed to the traditional method of releasing the high end cards first to create a halo effect. More confusing is AMD's bold choice of renaming their new series of cards to reflect an entirely refreshed product range, as opposed to intuitively carrying the moniker we've been accustomed to seeing since the HD3870 launched a few years back. Typically, the X870 naming convention has been reserved for ATI's high end offerings, but under the new AMD logo rebrand, they have decided that the moniker will now symbolise their mid-range segment. The confusion arises in the fact that consumers accustomed to the old naming scheme will confuse this new card as the replacement to the Cypress based HD5870, when in fact it will replace the Juniper based HD5770.

AMD Radeon HD 6850 and 6870 CrossFire Video Card Review
Legit Reviews posted their review on the AMD Radeon HD 6850 and 6870 CrossFire Video Cards

Today AMD released their second generation DirectX 11 video card with the Radeon HD 6800 series. The Radeon HD 6800 series consists of the Radeon HD 6850 and Radeon HD 6870 video cards and we have an in-depth review of them for you today. We also run them both in CrossFire to see how they scale and do all the usual tests that we throw at new video cards!

The AMD Radeon HD 6870 and Radeon HD 6850 proved to be two very solid performing mainstream video cards from what we saw in our initial testing with them. These cards are officially AMD's second generation DirectX 11 video card series, which is impressive as NVIDIA still has not released all of their first generation cards yet. When AMD designed the Radeon HD 6800 'Barts' series of GPUs they wanted to have Radeon HD 5800-class performance, but optimize the GPU to lower power use and the price tag. The cards do in fact have Radeon HD 5800-class performance in general and we saw much better power efficiency from the cards. This was done by lower the transistor count from 2.15 billion to 1.7 billion and as a result the die size went from 334mm2 to just 255mm2. Since both the Radeon HD 5800 and 6800 series are built by TSMC on the 40nm process we can see that AMD really cleaned things up inside the core and tuned this GPU for efficiency...

PC Perspective takes a look at the AMD Radeon HD 6870 and 6850

The new AMD Radeon HD 6800 series cards are here! Do the new HD 6870 and HD 6850 live up to the hype surrounding them over the past months and can their new $200 price tag stick it to NVIDIA's GTX 460 cards like AMD is hoping? Stop in and read the full review for the details!

AMD was likely losing ground in the $200 segment and because of that felt the need to get a reply out sooner than its original schedule had intended. That is good news for gamers: now we have better, lower cost options from AMD and also a forced hand from NVIDIA that caused a price drop on the GTX 460 lineup. If I was given a $220 budget today and asked to pick between the AMD or NVIDIA options, I would probably lean towards the AMD HD 6870 if only for the triple monitor support; other users might value the ability to run some sort of 3D Vision gaming and PhysX titles better on the NVIDIA cards. It is a cop-out, but all of these cards are good options.

In IT, each autumn brings with itself something new, after the dry summer period, which is generally shunned when new products are to be presented, since much of it goes “under the radar”. Well, AMD certainly is trying to make this autumn noticeable, marking the upcoming period with its Radeon series. Having in mind the blow struck to the HD series at the very beginning, with the HD 2000 series’ cards, few would expect the following four generations to have fared so well. Since HD 3000 upwards, everything has been back on track, and now we have Radeons from the HD 6000 series on our testing desks...
