Acer Predator Z35P vs AOC Agon AG352UCG review: Titanic G-sync battle

Recently we released a round-up of eight so-called wide full hd monitors, but enthusiasts view this resolution as outdated. For true graphical fidelity in super wide the demanding user wants an ultra wide quad hd monitor, preferably with a refresh rate that is as high as possible. Lately the amount of available models has been increasing quite a bit, but two new models require a separate comparison because of their specifications: the Acer Predator Z35P and the AOC Agon AG352UCG both have a G-sync scaler, offer 3440x1440 pixels and (more than) 100Hz refresh rate. These are not cheap, but on paper these are monitors that the die-hard gamer wants. We tested both models extensively.

AMD Readies AGESA 1.0.0.7 Update Enabling Raven Ridge APUs

AMD is readying an update to its AGESA micro-code. AGESA is an essential component of AMD platform motherboard BIOSes responsible for starting the processor at system start-up. Updates to it improve the motherboards' memory and CPU compatibility. Following its all-important AGESA 1.0.0.6 update that vastly improves memory compatibility of AMD Ryzen processors, the company is readying an even newer version. The new AGESA 1.0.0.7 update prompts significant changes to the structure of motherboard BIOSes, making it easy to implement support for upcoming socket AM4 chips, such as the "Raven Ridge" APUs, and the 2nd generation Ryzen "Pinnacle Ridge" CPUs.

Professional overclocker elmor, who is currently associated with ASUS ROG, responding to an Overclockers.net forums question about the Crosshair VI series motherboard, mentioned that AGESA 1.0.0.7 significantly changes the BIOS structure of AMD motherboards, which will make it easier implement support for future processors. "AGESA 1007 comes with support for Raven Ridge APUs. AMD has also changed the entire BIOS base structure so we have to do a lot of work to port everything to the new version, which may result in further bugs. The advantage is that it makes it easier to support future CPUs (Raven Ridge, Pinnacle Ridge)," he said. Updates to AGESA are distributed by motherboard manufacturers as BIOS updates.

Asus ROG Rampage VI Apex

Well, we are far enough past the original X299 launch that the refined and crazier motherboards are starting to come out. This isn’t anything new, Asus especially likes to take more time for their crazy boards, not just rushing everything out to make it to launch day. In this case, it also gives them the chance to tweak things, like work on the VRM cooling that was found to be an issue with a lot of the X299 boards after the launch. This works out timing wise as well given Intel finally launching their last few high-end Core-X CPUs. In fact, Asus sent this board over specifically to test with that launch. Well with that out of the way I can finally also take a closer look at the board itself. You know the Rampage VI Apex is something special when it stands out even when compared to the Prime X299 Deluxe. So let's check it out.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 2 (2017) Review: Nearly Perfect With OLED

One could argue that the two primary features of a modern laptop, that can most prominently define the user experience, would be its display and keyboard. After all, these two aspects make up the majority of a notebook PC's human-computer interface. If that's the case, then Lenovo's latest ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Gen 2) with OLED display has a rather unfair advantage. As we've noted in the past, Lenovo has some of the best laptop keyboards in the business, at least in terms of usability and feel.

And when you couple a 14-inch OLED (Organic LED) display with one of the best laptop keyboard designs on the market, you're definitely starting with a winning combination...

Seagate BarraCuda Pro 12TB Hard Drive Review

Seagate recently announced new 12TB 3.5-inch hard drives for desktop and NAS use aimed that those that need massive amounts of storage space. Those that have large data storage needs know that hard drives are still relevant due to their reliability and low price points. The new Seagate 12TB drives that were released this month make up the BarraCuda Pro, IronWolf, and IronWolf Pro product families. Today, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Seagate BarraCuda Pro 12TB drive that is a successor to last years 10TB drive that we were impressed by when we reviewed it. The new model packs 2TB of additional storage capacity in the same enclosure. Seagate didn’t change technologies to make a 12TB disk, so they are still using Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) in a helium filled enclosure for the 7200 RPM disks to have less drag. They managed to hit this new capacity milestone by switching to eight 1.5 TB platters rather than seven 1.43 TB platters. The reliability on the new 12TB 3.5-inch SATA III 6Gbps hard drive remains close to the same as well, so Seagate kept the five-year warranty on this model.
