AMD Releases Tips for Building a Better AMD Ryzen System

AMD has released a guide to getting the most out of your Ryzen CPU. Robert Hallock has focused on the memory subsystem with recommendations that can run at 3200 speeds in four stick 32GB configurations. Many of us new to the platform have been scouring the web looking for this type of information since launch. He shows how a Ryzen test system handles a game that wasn't optimized for the new platform, but by utilizing some simple tweaks, a 35% gain in performance can be achieved. AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (14nm Zen) Review

Massive multi-core performance for £320. There was febrile talk of just how the AMD Ryzen processor was going to shake up the enthusiast PC landscape by heralding Intel-matching performance at significantly lower price points. AMD has achieved that aim, as you can see by perusing our R7 1800X and R7 1700X reviews. Hugely capable in scenarios where applications take advantage of multiple threads, the Ryzen 7's only real weakness is slightly underwhelming performance in gaming, attributable to, AMD says, Windows not being optimised for the chips' SMT capability.

With the understanding that the initial batch of Ryzen 7 processors are built on the same wafers at GlobalFoundries, there is good reason to believe that, once overclocked, all will perform similarly. Such a suggestion makes sense knowing that all Ryzen chips are unlocked.

Today we take a look at the new Cooler Master Masterwatt Maker 1200W MIJ, a power supply that has been plastered all over the tech news recently, – yep this is the one with the eye popping £900 retail price. Surely no power supply could be worth the guts of a grand?

Inno3D iChill GeForce GTX 1080 Ti X3 Review

The first custom GTX 1080 Ti put through the wringer. Want to build a gaming PC with the very best GPU? Look no further than Nvidia's GeForce GTX 1080 Ti. Introduced just last week, the new addition to the 10-series range offers all of the performance of the suddenly nonsensical Titan X at a far more palatable $699 price point.

Such a figure is by no means pocket change, but when you consider that Titan X was priced at $1,199, GTX 1080 Ti can rightly be viewed as a comparative bargain. The lower fee is a major attraction for this 11GB, 3,584-shader range topper, yet what really makes GTX 1080 Ti intriguing is that it won't be restricted to a Founders Edition guise. Nvidia's reference cooler serves a purpose, but our initial review revealed that it struggles to tame the underlying GPU, and in the hands of AIC partners the GTX 1080 Ti should be able to further extend its performance lead.

Taken all together, the part selection is a sensible but strong approach to performance computing, with overclocking thrown in for good measure...
