HotHardware: AMD A10 and A8 Trinity APU: Virgo CPU Performance Review
Late last week, we posted a glimpse of what AMD had in store with their latest A-Series APUs for desktop systems. In that article, we were able to officially unveil the Virgo platform and discuss speeds and feeds, GPU performance, and power consumption characteristics. However, we weren't able to disclose any CPU performance numbers, overclocking data, or pricing. We know some of you aren't too fond of cliffhangers that leave out important data like that, but thankfully we can give you all the full scoop here today.Read more
In this piece, we'll fill in the blanks regarding AMD's latest desktop APUs and cover the rest of the performance characteristics many of you have been eagerly anticipating, from standard X86 performance to media encoding and overclocking.
Hi Tech Legion: AMD A10-5800K Unlocked "Trinity" Quad Core APU Review
AMD's new flagship Trinity APU is the A10-5800K. The A10-5800K features some notable improvements over the previous generation. The key improvement is the architectural change to the "Piledriver" core. Piledriver contains a shared fetcher, decoder, floating point unit, and L2 within a compute module. There is an upgrade to 2MB L2 cache per compute module. Instructional advancements have been made, adding AVX, AVX 1.1, FMA3, AES, and F16C. There have also been changes over "Bulldozer", adding IPC improvement, leakage reduction, CAC reduction, and frequency uplift. The newest A10-5800K has been clocked at 3.8GHz with a max turbo frequency of 4.2GHz. The new chip uses a new FM2 socket. The iGPU has also received an upgrade to the Radeon 7660D. The 7660D contains 384 stream processors. The core has been redesigned with VLIW4 thread process for better performance. The iGPU can also now support Eyefinity, up to 4 displays, new MSAA modes, and compute enhancements.Read more

Anandtech: AMD A10-5800K & A8-5600K Review: Trinity on the Desktop, Part 2
Last week we took a look at the GPU side of the desktop Trinity APUs. We looked at the top end 384-core Radeon HD 7660D configuration as well as the slightly slower 256-core Radeon HD 7560D GPU, both of which easily outperformed Intel's HD 4000 and HD 2500. As far as processor graphics go, Trinity on the desktop maintains a healthy lead over Intel. There's still a place for discrete GPUs but that's pretty much at the $100 and above price points. Today we're able to talk about pricing and x86 CPU performance. Read on to see how AMD's latest APU fares against Intel's newly released Ivy Bridge based Core i3 3220.Read more
