Analyzing Core i9-9900K Performance with Spectre and Meltdown Hardware Mitigations

One of the key aspects of the most recent Intel processor launch, its Core 9th Generation processors, is that the new design affords some hardware-based protection for a couple of the Spectre and Meltdown family of security vulnerabilities. When these vulnerabilities were first discovered, they were patched using a combination of software and firmware, which unfortunately led to some performance regressions over an unpatched processor. The ultimate goal is for a hardware patch, which is always enabled, that loses zero performance – we’re testing out what the new patches have for us today.

Aorus Z390 Pro Motherboard Review

Just about everyone who builds a PC out of pocket wants the same thing. The best possible performance at the lowest possible price. However, that can be tricky at times. When I'm asked by someone what the best price to performance motherboard they can buy is, I always say Aorus. We were first introduced to Aorus branded motherboards in January …

Arctic BioniX P120 Review

Today we look at one of their new 120mm fan offerings, the BioniX P120. This new fan is optimised for increased static pressure, making it useful on heatsinks and radiators, while other refinements include reduced power consumption through the use of a Neodym-Iron-Boron-Magnet motor, decreased motor vibration with clever magnet placement and, perhaps best of all, an extended lifespan via reduced operating temperatures.

ASRock Z390 Phantom Gaming-ITX/ac Motherboard Review

The last two times I've bought a new motherboard I've had to do it because of a CPU upgrade, so most of my money has gone into that part. With my last system overhaul, after picking up my new i7-8700K a few months back, I again skimped on the motherboard. I went with a Gigabyte Z370P-D3 motherboard because the 6th-Gen variant I used with my 6700K was decent.

Crucial's P1 500-GB QLC NVMe SSD reviewed

Just a few days ago, we reviewed a quad-level-cell SSD for the first time ever. The experience left us wanting more. Not more QLC, to be clear. We want more of the comforting, familiar march of virtually indistinguishable drives based on various manufacturers' 3D TLC NAND that we'd been living through till recently. Soon, we may be looking back on those days wistfully. But you can't always get what you want, so today we've got another QLC drive on hand. Meet Crucial's P1 500 GB.The 860 QVO's role was cut and dried: to offer a sort of middle ground between smaller, faster SSDs and larger, cheaper mechanical storage.

HyperX Cloud MIX Headset Review

We’ve been fans of HyperX’s Cloud gaming headsets since they were first released a few years back. Since the first headset HyperX has just got it right in terms of sound quality, comfort, and style. HyperX’s latest release, the Cloud MIX, attempts to go into a realm HyperX has not been before, wireless. The Cloud MIX as the name suggests is not just for PC use though, it is designed as a gaming headset that you can use on your PC, console, mobile device, etc. It features not only Bluetooth wireless connectivity, but a wired connection too, so HyperX is hoping this is the all-around headset for anyone. Will this headset replace the Cloud Alpha, which I use daily? Or my wireless travel headphones, the BOHM B66’s? Read on as we find out!

OnePlus 6T Review

Earlier this year we took a detailed look at the OnePlus 6 and determined it was one of the best values in Android flagship smartphones on the market. The OP6 has a beautiful, large display, a clean near-stock Android setup and great performance with 6GB or 8GB RAM standard at price points of $529 and $579 respectively. When rumors of the OnePlus 6T hit, we wondered if OnePlus could really improve on an already great design and offer even more of a good thing. As is the case with virtually any high tech device, trade-offs are a constant in the overall design equation. Then again, with its mantra of "Never Settle" seemingly driving the company's design choices, the question remained, how would OnePlus one-up themselves and the original OnePlus 6?
