Analyzing Graphics Card Pricing: July 2018

It’s time to talk about graphics card pricing once again. Similar to our article a couple of months ago, today we’re exploring cards you can actually buy right now and at what prices, how that compares to previous months, which ones are the best value for money, and whether you should even buy one at all right now.

At this point you must be familiar with the story of graphics card pricing. Early in 2017 things were going nicely on the graphics card market; you could find most cards in stock and at prices near their MSRP. But then as cryptocurrency mining started to boom in the later parts of 2017, and especially in early 2018, prices for cards started to soar as eager miners bought them in droves.

BenQ ScreenBar Plus e-Reading Review

When BenQ told me they were sending over their new and improved light bar to review, I wasn’t sure what to expect and after using it for a week or so, I can confidently say while I am still not a 100% certain I understand its value proposition, I can say that it makes for a superb lamp. That said, the BenQ ScreenBar Plus e-Reading light bar does exactly what its advertised to do, better than most of the competition (as far as I am aware) and features some great build quality and specifications. This is our official review of this curious little product.

Corsair H100i Pro 240-mm closed-loop liquid CPU Cooler Review

Earlier this year, Corsair announced its Hydro Pro series of closed-loop liquid coolers. Those heatsinks introduced a stylish new pump-head design kitted out with RGB LED lighting, and they tapped Corsair's exceptional ML-series fans for air-moving power at the radiator end. The first two heatsinks in that series covered two important bases: the H115i Pro for 280-mm radiator mounts, and the behemoth H150i Pro for cases with 360-mm radiator hardpoints.

The bread and butter of the closed-loop liquid-cooler market lies in smaller radiators, though, and 240-mm heat exchangers are the place to be for most builders with mid-towers and mainstream CPU sockets. Today, Corsair is rounding third and headed for home with the 240-mm H100i Pro.

Corsair H100i PRO Review

We review the new Corsair Hydro Series H110i PRO, the latest iteration in the Hydro PRO series is fitted with a dual-fan 240mm radiator. The i in that h100i naming means it's software controllable with iCUE software. And that allows you to fire off several performance profiles as well as some sweet RGB bling Corsair at this cooler. The cooler is very silent and certainly brings in very adequate cooling capacity.

The H100i PRO LCS cooler has a 240mm radiator with corresponding dual 120mm fans. The 'I' in the naming refers towards software control and monitoring. iCUE allows you to program, customize and monitor this all-in-one liquid cooling solution for your processor. Armed with two ML (Magnetic Levitation) PWM based fans and that radiator the cooling capacity should be good. The Corsair application will also allow you to customize LED lighting directly from the software. These days you can pick a hundred different heatpipe based coolers, where many are shaped, formed and priced the same. The better heatpipe based coolers are good though. Next in line are LCS systems (liquid cooling), the entry-level products are affordable, easy to install pre-fab liquid cooling kits. We've seen and tested many of them as Corsair, Asetek, CoolIT, NZXT, Cooler Master and so on, all have interesting kits. The bigger problem is cooling performance. The gear behind these kits are good yet the performance is often battling a small included 120mm radiator with thin tubing and lacking coolant levels due to missing reservoirs. To compensate FAN RPM goes up making a good looking product noisy again. With that in mind, Corsair started to develop a new H series (for Hydro) coolers.

CORSAIR Hydro H100i Pro RGB Low Noise 240mm RGB Liquid CPU Cooler Review

Regular CPU Air Cooler sales may still be holding well largely thanks to consumers on a tight budget who are not really looking to get the best possible cooling efficiency for their systems but AIO (all-in-one) models continue to gain ground and so it makes sense that most manufacturers keep enriching their product lines with new models. The continuously increasing popularity of RGB lighting (and RGB peripherals and components in general) is also part of the reason for this since gamers and enthusiasts are not only into high performance but also looks. CORSAIR recently introduced two new models in their growing line of RGB AIO liquid CPU coolers (360mm H150i Pro RGB / 280mm H115i Pro RGB) and after numerous awards (not to mention impressive sales numbers) today they released their smaller brother the H100i Pro RGB Low Noise 240mm RGB Liquid CPU Cooler.

Founded in 1994, CORSAIR supplies high-performance products purchased primarily by PC gaming enthusiasts who build their own PCs or buy pre-assembled customized systems. The company's award-winning products include DDR3 and DDR4 memory upgrades, computer cases, PC cooling products, gaming headsets, gaming keyboards, gaming mice, power supply units, USB flash drives, solid-state drives and system monitoring and control devices.

Corsair Hydro Series H100i PRO 240mm RGB Liquid CPU Cooler Review

Corsair’s Hydro Series H100 all-in-one liquid cooler has been a mainstay on the market for years now, with iterative updates to add features such as software integration. With this new H100i PRO, now joining the ranks of the existing H115i PRO and H150i PRO, the venerable cooler has again been revised, and this time RGB lighting is featured - though a subtle integration.

“The CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i PRO is an all-in-one RGB liquid CPU cooler with a 240mm radiator built for low-noise cooling performance and bold styling with an RGB LED pump head. Two included 120mm ML Series magnetic levitation PWM fans provide great airflow and static pressure, with a wide PWM speed control range between 400 RPM and 2,400 RPM.
Powerful CORSAIR iCUE software lets you customize RGB lighting, monitor temperatures and precisely adjust fan speeds, or stop fans entirely with the H100i’s Zero RPM fan mode. Easy to install and compatible with most major CPU sockets, the H100i makes it easy to cool your system in silence and style.”

Corsair Hydro Series H100i PRO Liquid CPU Cooler Review

Just over six months ago, Corsair launched the first closed-loop liquid cooling solutions that use the 6th Generation of Asetek’s cooling technology. The two new models introduced were the H150i Pro, a 360mm closed-loop liquid cooling solution for $159.99 and then the smaller H115i Pro 280mm liquid cooler at $129.99. Both of these liquid CPU coolers use Asetek Gen6 pump and coldplate technologies and have been kitted out with the latest Corsair Magnetic Levitation fans (ML-series) and RGB LED lighting powered by CORSAIR iCUE software. Corsair also introduced a 0RPM mode for these two new coolers, so if liquid temperatures are below 45C the fans turn off and you can enjoy near silent cooling as the pump must still circulate the coolant. Cooling performance on water coolers has really plateaued in recent years, so most the advancements these days are on the cooling solutions pump and fan acoustic performance as well as visual appearance.

CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i PRO RGB Liquid CPU Cooler Review

For enabling use in even smaller case form factors, CORSAIR has now prepared the H100i PRO RGB cooler, that shares most of the features from the 280mm radiator version. In more detail, we are talking about Asetek’s Gen6 pump design, that is more compact and was built to offer performance while keeping the sound levels to a minimum, low permeation with black sleeving tubing and the ML fans.

Corsair Hydro Series H100i Pro RGB Review

Corsair's 240mm all-in-one cooler gets a 2018 refresh. Having become synonymous with all-in-one liquid coolers, Corsair has periodically updated its Hydro Series portfolio with newer models touting incremental improvements. 2018 saw the introduction of the 360mm H150i Pro RGB and 280mm H115i Pro RGB, and Corsair is today extending the reach of its refreshed range with the launch of the 240mm H100i Pro RGB.

The addition of a 240mm offering should come as no surprise - this is one of the most popular sizes for all-in-one coolers - and Corsair's construction isn't a revelation, either. Maintaining consistency throughout the range, the H100i Pro RGB is aesthetically identical to its larger siblings, meaning a black aluminium radiator, a pair of ML-Series fans, sleeved tubing and a familiar RGB pump-head containing four LEDs. It's a nice-enough design, but with the likes of Cooler Master, Deepcool and NZXT pushing out the boat out on pump appearance, the Hydro Series comes across as relatively staid.

Dig or Die Review

Going into Dig or Die it’s impossible not to notice what influenced the game. It started with Minecraft, the game that inspired what is now a genre of the block-building survival games. Minecraft inspired games like Terraria and Starbound, these are the clear inspiration behind Dig or Die.

Starbound is by far the closest of the building-survival games to this. But this isn’t to say Dig or Die is any more a copy of Starbound than it was of Terraria, and that was of Minecraft. These games have stood out by adding their own unique features and other aesthetic choices. Dig or Die certainly stands out from the rest with the choices it makes.

OWC Travel Dock Review

OWC is a top tier vendor for all things mac. Recently, with the introduction of USB-C and Thunderbolt 3, they have pushed more than ever to be platform agnostic. This means with most of their new products we have wide compatibility from macOS, Windows and Linux.

The Travel Dock is set to target all markets where a small form factor dock is needed. This solution takes from its built-in USB-C connection offering two USB 3.0 ports, SD card reader UHS II capable and display connectivity via HDMI at 4K30. OWC has also thought about users with just a single host port, allowing the secondary port on the Travel Dock to support 60w of passthrough power, capable of charging most notebooks.

Qnap TS-453Be Review

When you just have one computer in the house storing your data and putting together a backup solution can be as simple as an external hard drive and a basic cloud storage account. But what I have found is that as you have more computers being used, especially when you also start running HTPCs or in my case Shield TVs on all of your TVs you need a better solution. For around my house, we run multiple NAS. One with critical data on it and others with stuff like our backed up media files for access at the televisions. That is where companies like Qnap come into play, they have developed low power usage NAS that goes WAY beyond just storing your data. They have a lot of media integrations and a variety of ways to back everything up. Qnap sent over the TS-453Be, a quad-core NAS designed to be expandable for M.2 or 10GbE support while keeping the costs down without fancy external screens. So today I’m going to see what kind of feature Qnap is offering and check out its performance and their software.

Sapphire INCA CS-14 Compute System Review

With 14 AMD RX 470 GPUs, and a £5K price tag, this is one mega mining rig. The furore surrounding Bitcoin from the end of 2017 may have subsided along with the value of cryptocurrency in general, but the repercussions are still being felt. GPU prices have risen as a result of demand, although there are signs of this softening. There is still potentially money to be made from mining, despite the price of a Bitcoin being nowhere near its $19,783.21 peak, if you have cheap power and optimised hardware. Graphics supremo Sapphire aims to provide this with its new INCA CS-14 Compute System.

We discussed how you can get started with cryptocurrency mining a few months ago, but the INCA is aimed at a much more serious user. It doesn’t look that exciting, because it’s a 4U 19in rackmount chassis. In theory, you can install eight of them in a full rack. But inside it gets much more interesting – you can fit up to 14 GPUs using special dual-GPU cards. These can be either the 4GB or the 8GB versions of the AMD Radeon RX470, and we were sent seven of the latter. These are managed by an embedded AMD System-on-Chip, running Ubuntu Linux and with the Claymore mining software preloaded.

Everyone's talking about the cloud. In this way, large companies achieve a reduction in IT costs and shift responsibility to the cloud provider. But cloud storage is also becoming increasingly important for private users. The goal is to store large amounts of data securely and with high availability and to be able to access them from anywhere. However, the data should be stored in your own home if possible in order to have a certain degree of security. Therefore, today we would like to present a system that combines the advantages of both worlds. We are talking about the Network Attached Storage, NAS System DS218+ from Synology. We now show on OCinside.de that this NAS is much more than a simple data grave and we have even integrated a Synology C2 Cloud review as well as VPN guide!
