Spotify for Linux - In the friendzone

Spotify is arguably the most popular music streaming service out there. Apologies to any diehard fanboys who may have been offended by this statement. With 100 million users and tight social media integration, it sure plays in the big league. You can also go premium and this will render your interface ad-free and fidelity-high.

But what about Linux? As it turns out, Linux has never been high on the list of priorities for the Spotify team, and at some point, the support was discontinued, then it was revived recently, which prompted me to give it a try. Seeking originality and uniqueness in my work, I opted for Fedora, only to learn that only builds for Debian-based distributions are available. In other words, Ubuntu and friends. Very similar to my experience with Sayonara. Anyhow, let’s see what gives.

The Solar Centre Albany Solar Premium Spotlight Review

Where i live (and i imagine in many other parts of the world) electricity doesn't come cheap so whenever i have some free time i always look for ways to reduce electricity costs (and why not reduce my carbon footprint in the process) whether that's by using auto off conserve power sockets or by using LED light bulbs wherever i possibly can. However if you also happen to have a small backyard like i do then you probably know that it's not really possible (cost-wise) to have it illuminated during the entire duration of the night. Now i have tried numerous solar lights from time to time and although some did produce satisfactory results they only lasted but a few months tops thus didn't really fit the bill. Roughly 4 months ago i was looking to replace a few faulty solar lights with something of higher quality so when i stumbled across the Albany Solar Premium Spotlight by The Solar Centre i just had to try them out.

The Solar Centre supplies a large number of businesses and organizations of all sizes including high street retailers, e-tailers, government departments, local and county councils, schools, colleges, universities, NGOs and charities.

As clearly stated by its name the Albany is a small weatherproof spotlight made out of brushed aluminum (thus the premium part) paired with a 2W solar panel (via an 1.8 meter long cable) and a rechargeable battery pack. Contained inside the aluminum enclosure is a tiny yet durable and high performance CREE LED bulb that can output a brightness rating of 125 Lumen with a white color temperature of 5500k. A frosty glass reflector placed at the end of the spotlight allows the Albany to illuminate an area of up to 82 feet (25 meters) while the 2W solar panel with its light sensor and rechargeable battery pack doesn't only operate the device automatically but it can also provide it with enough power for up to 10 continuous hours. Last but not least The Solar Centre gives the CREE LED bulb an MTBF of 50.000 hours and backs it up with a 12 month warranty. So on paper the Albany sure looks great but is it really? Let's take a closer look to find out.

Zalman ZM-K900M RGB mechanical keyboard review

We review the ZM-K900M, the new RGB LED lit mechanical keyboard from Zalman. This Kailh switches based mechanical keyboard with nice pressure keys comes with an RGB LED animation system. Overall a simple and straightforward looking yet intensely versatile keyboard with some very cool per key LED lighting features that can animate. Let's have a peek shall we ?

As Zalman is slowly expanding their product line they offer a new Z-MACHINE Gaming gear range keyboard with the ZM-K900M. A simple looking yet very extensive mechanical keyboard with RGB LED back-lighting while being fitted with Kailh switches (mechanical). It's not just all about the LEDs and cool lighting animations of course, the keyboard comes in a really sturdy black design and as simple as it is, it just looks incredible (though I'll immediately acknowledge that taste is a very subjective thing). The RGB LED lit keys are coated for long lasting letters, and yeah keys and can be lit and animated per key, without the use of software. A few LED animation modes are thrown in as well like wave, breathing and responsive effects.

ZOTAC GTX 1050 Mini Review

The latter end of this year has been full of excitement in the graphics card division. NVIDIA’s GTX 10 series has been one of their most notable generation releases yet, with the GTX 1060, 1070 and 1080 asserting dominance over the mid and high range but what about the entry-level? So far, AMD has seized the opportunity and taken advantage with the RX 460 but today NVIDIA has the answer for the low-end by way of the NVIDIA GTX 1050.

Today we’ll be looking to ZOTAC for a detailed review of the GTX 1050 MINI. As its name suggests, this graphics card bears a super-small footprint at just 145mm in length. Not only is this GTX 1050 ideal for small form factor systems but it also obtains power to operate from the PCI express slot – so no need for a PCI-E cable from the PSU.

The intention of the GTX 1050 is to tackle 1080p, but will this card be able to take the spotlight from the AMD RX 460? Let’s find out!
