51nb ThinkPad X210 Mod Review

In the automotive world, there is the idea of a sleeper car. Sleepers are high-performance cars in mundane, dull shells. This performance can come from a variety of different areas; it might be a high-performance trim level of a vehicle that most people associate to be cheap or slow, from modifications, or even entire drivetrain swaps.
The enthusiast PC building world also has their equivalent sleepers. In general, these sorts of project swap new, high-performance hardware into chassis from vintage desktop computers, this build from Linus Tech Tips springs to mind as a standout option.
One area that largely gets left behind in the PC hardware modification world is notebooks. Generally, notebooks don’t use standard components, making it virtually impossible to do something like swap newer hardware into an existing notebook chassis.

What we are taking a look at today, however, defies all common knowledge of the PC world. Through the work of some intrepid modders, I am now the proud owner of a 2010-vintage Lenovo ThinkPad X201 with a modern, 8th generation quad-core mobile processor, NVMe SSD, and 32GB of DDR4 memory in it.

Arozzi Mezzo V2 Gaming Chair Review

The latest affordable model in the Arozzi line of gaming chairs is called the Mezzo V2 and after spending roughly 3 weeks with it we can say with certainty that it's worth checking out if you're in the market for one and you're also on a tight budget.

Roughly 3 weeks ago a few of my friends who wanted to see for themselves just how good gaming chairs really are came over at the lab to test some of the latest models we have here and to my surprise most of them favored the most affordable of the bunch. In their defense my friends are not PC or console gamers so they are always looking for comfortable “reading chairs” meaning that they care not about fancy RGB lighting or extra features like 4D armrests and adjustable footrests (still I have to admit that I did expect them to be impressed by some of the most expensive players). Today’s review is all about the model most of them favored and more specifically the latest Mezzo V2 Gaming Chair by our friends over at Arozzi.

ASRock confirms 8-core Intel CPU support for H310 motherboard

Our moles at ASRock have just delivered a fresh leak for you. Intel H310 with 8-core support ASRock has new stickers H310 motherboards packaging. This ultimately confirms two things: the entry-level boards will indeed support 8-core CPUs (it will not be exclusive to Z390 series), and the fact that 8-core CPU even exists. The support will likely come in a BIOS update, which should eventually roll out to all 300 series motherboards.

D-Link DIR-867 Wireless Router Review

The D-Link DIR-867 AC1750 MU-MIMO wireless router delivers surprisingly good performance at a surprisingly good price. I was driving home one night with my friend when I noticed flashing red and blue in my rear-view mirror. "Crap," I told my friend. "Guess I got caught red handed." A police officer walks up to my car after I pulled over. "Do you know how fast you are going?" Being careful in what I say, I politely asked her to tell me what she got. "I caught you going at least 115 to 120km/h. License and registration please." After handing over my documents, she went back to her police cruiser. A minute or so passed by and she came back with my documents. "I am going to let you off with a warning," she said. "Please slow down and drive safely." Back on the road, my friend was rather surprised at how I just got off with a warning while driving a rather significant amount over the speed limit. "She does not have my speed," I explained. "Her radar is not on and she did not have enough time to pace me. Also, their impression of you will determine whether you get a ticket or not." While I will admit I was incredibly lucky I got off with a warning regardless of the circumstances surrounding it, here is my main takeaway from this story: Numbers tell a part of the story, but real life determines the outcome in rather unpredictable ways. Recently, D-Link send us a new product from their budget line, the DIR-867 AC1750 MU-MIMO wireless router, for review. AC1750 may be the lowest rated 802.11ac specification we have ever looked at here at APH Networks, but how will it perform in real life? iDownload Manager Review

You don't need to settle for your browser's built-in download manager.

When I first saw iDownload Manager, I thought it would be a nice utility that would be ultimately redundant. After all, browsers already have download managers built in. But after using it, I can't see myself uninstalling it. It's fast, simple, and works flawlessly with web browsers through its accompanying extension.

Lenovo Smart Display Review

The Lenovo Smart display is the first in an assault of Google Assistant-enabled devices set to hit the market this year. They will take on Amazon's Echo Show in a battle for smart home assistant technology, with not only a set of ears, but also a set of eyes and a display face to complete the experience.

Priced at $249.99 for a 10-inch version and $199.99 for an 8-inch variant, with identical hardware specs except for the display, these are a new breed of smart home devices that have the potential to give Google and its OEM partners a leg up on Amazon. Since they're part of the "Android Things" ecosystem, Android users will have direct access to their data and media on Google's many services that are coupled with Android.

And that tight coupling across platforms and services is one advantage Echo devices can't currently match...

MSI Infinite A 8th Review

MSI's take on a mid-tower gaming rig. MSI may be best known for producing high-end PC components, but the Taiwanese manufacturer also has a solid track record when it comes to turnkey systems. The firm's gaming laptops have a sizeable fan base, and it's always interesting to see MSI try its hand at desktops, which tend to come in all shapes and sizes.

One of the latest off the production line is the Infinite A 8th, a more traditional mid-tower solution designed to show off an array of MSI components and, of course, a good splattering of Mystic Light RGB LEDs.

Philips Momentum 436M6VBPAB Review

Hdr is a significant improvement over the old flat display, whether it be a television or a monitor. In the TV world, there is a growing supply of suitable products, but in the monitor land hdr is still quite scarce. Certainly models that offer 'true' hdr are rare. Philips is introducing a 43-inch monitor that does offer this, the Momentum 436M6VBPAB. In this article we are going to share and discuss the test results of this monitor.

For ‘true’ hdr a monitor at least needs a high (peak) brightness and a wide colour space. The Philips Momentum 436M6VBPAB promises both: with at least 1000 nits of brightness and support for the dci-p3 colour space it qualifies for the DisplayHDR 1000 criterium of the Vesa standards organization. Philips also reports that the monitor has received the UHD Premium certificate from the UHD Alliance. Now that all of the standards and certificates are out of the way we would like to get back to the facts: brightness, colour space and colour depth are important.

Snakebyte Head:Set X Review

Snakebyte make some of my favorite Xbox accessories, but I had a degree of skepticism about the pint-sized Head:Set X earphones. I was totally wrong.

Snakebyte make an increasingly high-quality array of third-party accessories for Xbox One. I was particularly impressed by the company's Twin:Charge X battery-charging docking station for Xbox One, which brings some form and function to your play space. Having reviewed so many headsets for Xbox One, I was notably sceptical to hear Snakebyte was bringing a new line of headsets to the market, licensed for Xbox One. Right from the unboxing, I found myself pleasantly surprised, but it's the sound quality that really left a big impression.

Thermaltake Toughpower iRGB Plus 1250w PSU Review

Slowly but surely, Thermaltake is building an excellent reputation with their product range. Best known for their coolers, power supplies, chassis and gaming merchandise, while it may not be the first name off your tongue in terms of PC component manufacturers, there’s no real reason why it shouldn’t be. That aside though, the way they are going Thermaltake are doing everything possible to make that happen.

We have in the past reviewed many of their products and have always found them to be excellent. This time around though, we’re looking at something particularly impressive.

The Thermaltake Toughpower iRGB Plus is a 1250w power supply. Not only that, it is Titanium rated. For those unfamiliar with power supply ratings, that’s basically as good as it gets in terms of efficiency. In addition, this PSU also includes some highly impressive power management features which can be run via software and if that wasn’t enough, RGB lighting. RGB lighting is definitely something Thermaltake take seriously!
