ASUS Live Update Servers Hacked

Not good news for Asus or owners of Asus motherboards. DO NOT USE LIVE UPDATE! until the issue has been fixed.

In a chilling reminder of just why system software should always be manually updated and never automatically, Vice Motherboard citing Kaspersky Labs reports that hackers have compromised the Live Update servers of ASUS, making them push malware to thousands of computers configured to fetch and install updates automatically. These include not just PC motherboards, but also pre-builts such as notebooks and desktops by ASUS. Smartphones and IoT devices by ASUS are also affected. Hackers have managed to use valid ASUS digital certificates to masquerade their malware as legitimate software updates from ASUS.

Enermax MaxRevo 1800W Power Supply Review

Enermax sets its sights on the very high end with this new MaxRevo 1800W unit. You will however need to be on 230v to eke out that much power, those of us with 120v input will be looking at a 1600W unit. However if you are building a high end HEDT with a huge multicore CPU or are needed multiple GPUs in your system, this one is worth a look.

Enermax Technology Corporation is a company that is well known in the world of power supplies and general computing alike. Founded in 1990, Enermax has made a name for itself by providing solid performing power supplies, among other computer components, cases, and accessories. Enermax' current lines of power supplies encompass a wide range of products targeted at various market segments. In addition to being a retail presence with its Enermax brand power supplies, Enermax Technology Corporation used to be one of the few true OEM designers of power supplies. Its power supplies however, only rarely showed up under other labels including Grow Up Japan, Sapphire, and its house brand Lepa with that time of independent design and production seeming to have passed. Today, we are looking at the newest product in Enermax's MaxRevo line; the MaxRevo 1800W (EMR1800EXT) which is designed by Enermax.

HyperX has released the Quadcast USB microphone today and we had a chance to test it out early for this launch-day review. Introduced at CES in January, this new condenser mic offers four selectable polar patterns (stereo, omnidirectional, cardioid, and bidirectional) and offers real-time monitoring via an onboard 3.5mm headphone jack. The mic also ships with a shock mount and desktop stand, and can be mounted to your choice of mic stands and boom arms with an included adapter that fits 3/8” and 5/8” threads.

Other features of the QuadCast are the large gain control on the bottom of the mic and the touch-controlled mute switch on the top, with mic status instantly evident via the integrated red lighting which is illumiated when you are "live", and turns off when you have muted the mic.

OneAdaptr OneWorld PD Review

There was a time in my life I would have really appreciated OneAdaptrs OneWorld PD. Starting in the late 1990s, I took a decade-plus detour in my writing career into new product development in the tech sector. This saw me travel to more than 70 different countries, and at times spend as much time out of the UK as in it.
Keeping all my gadgets powered and charged required quite a few power bricks and travel adapters. These days, things are very much easier – and the OneWorld PD is a big step closer to the perfect travel charger for all my iDevices.

Patriot Viper VPN100 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD Review

Patriot Memory recently released gaming SSD series under the Viper brand. It’s the fastest single SSD drive available in Patriot’s offer. Of course, we had to check how it performs and share with our readers.

Presented SSD is in 512GB version but the Viper VPN100 is available in capacity up to 2TB what makes it one of the only M.2 PCIe SSD available at so high capacity. It’s also one of not many M.2 SSD already equipped with a heatsink which helps a lot in keeping optimal temperature.

There are more interesting features of the VPN100 so let’s not make this introduction any longer and move to the next part of this review.
