Antec ISK 110 90w Mini-ITX VESA Compatible Chassis Review

The Antec ISK series has long been a favorite of mine. Sure we sometimes need high-end full towers, capable of housing epic gaming systems, but there’s a high demand for compact and efficient systems in the home and the office; something the ISK series is well suited to. The model we’re looking at today certainly is targeted more at the professional market, with many applications from digital signage and office systems, but there’s certainly no reason why you wouldn’t find a use for a chassis like this as a HTPC, space-saving system or more.

As you can see, the ISK110 comes equipped with a nice little bundle of screws, but more importantly, an external power supply adaptor. The ISK110 is capable of powering a system of up to 90w, which may not sound a lot, but given the low power requirements of 2.5″ drives and modern processors such as Haswell, it’s a lot more than it sounds; this is especially true given that this chassis will not house a graphics card.

The tablet half of this detachable 2-in-1 is thinner than the iPad Air, and it's backed by a keyboard dock that attaches with neodymium magnets. BitFenix Spectre Pro LED Cooling Fan Review

If you have had the opportunity to attend a Basic Economics 101 class, you will have most likely been presented with the basic definition of what economics is. In a nutshell, economics is the study of how individuals, firms, governments, and nations make choices to allocate their scarce resources to satisfy their unlimited wants. Because of this scarcity, we as individuals are forced to allocate our resources efficiently. The limited resources in the case of an individual is vastly different from the limited resources of a nation. Sources of our resource limitations can originate from different things like money, space, and energy. Hence, we must make informed choices between different items to fulfill our wants. These choices that we make are done by giving up or trading off one want to satisfy another. Applying this knowledge, I can see a similar struggle when choosing which fans to install in a computer system. On an aside, thankfully, this is more of a first world problem, since you have a computer to play around with: When users are looking for a fan, their first and foremost want is a solution that is cool, both literally and figuratively. Secondly, they hope their fans are quiet. Looking good with vibrant lights and flashy colors may also be another desire, but it is not necessarily as high of a priority. The limited resources playing into factor is money and physics. The real first world problem is the struggle between performance and noise. Will the Spectre Pro LED be the faster and quieter fan that users will want to get for their system? Read on to find out!

Hands-on and first impressions: Microsoft Lumia 540

A few months ago, Microsoft introduced the Lumia 535, a budget Windows Phone device and the first that carried the Microsoft branding after the transition from Nokia. Since then, there have been a slew of budget Lumia devices, several arriving in emerging markets like India before traditional Microsoft markets like the US or UK. The Lumia 540 is an improvement over the Lumia 535 with a better display and an improved camera, but it comes at a time where the boundaries between the Lumia range of devices are blurring and the feature-set and pricing is overlapping between different devices. The Lumia 640 that launched a few weeks ago sells at a similar price to the Lumia 540 but features better internals, although with a limited front camera. The Lumia 540 was launched in India earlier this week, and here are my first impressions of the latest budget smartphone from Microsoft.

Intel 750 Series PCIe SSD Review

First off we had IDE, then came SATA, then PCIe, then M2 over PCIe and now we have NVMe. We reviewed a few PCIe SSDs including the OCZ RevoDrive and more recently, the Plextor M6e which have all impressed with the amount of performance on offer so what gives with NVMe? While NVMe still utilises PCIe 3.0 it does so with much less overheads. What does this mean for you? Well compared to your average SSD over SATA interface using AHCI, the Intel 750 gives us between 4 and 8x the performance! The NVMe (Non-volatile memory express) protocol is a break from the usual AHCI protocol used for SSDs including PCIe SSDs but where NVMe differs is that is is much more efficient than AHCI. Perhaps the major advantage of NVMe over AHCI is its ability to exploit parallelism in host hardware and software, namely PCIe and multi-core CPUs. Ozone Argon Advanced Pro Laser Gaming Mouse Review

Ozone are one of my all time favourite gaming brands. Time and time again they've shown us that they can make a great gaming peripheral, so I'm really eager to see what the Argon has to offer. A great gaming mouse may not actually make you a better gamer, but it can certainly enhance the experience and given Ozone have a solid track history, I think we'll be in for a real treat today.

Samsung Portable SSD T1 250GB USB 3.0 Drive Review

If there's one thing electronics manufacturers know very well that's the difference between market segments so although for enterprise users, professionals and in some cases even enthusiasts they offer products with performance and reliability as their primary features when it comes to casual consumers the all-time classic price/performance ratio takes their place. So you'd think that the same "rule" would also apply in the storage media segment of the market right? Well that's not really the case since when it comes to USB flash drives most storage media manufacturers focus primarily in reliability and security for enterprise grade models, speed and capacity for models aimed at enthusiasts and professionals and finally price and capacity for models aimed at casual users. There are some exceptions to that rule but the one that stands-out from the crowd is the latest Samsung Portable SSD T1 which we have here with us today.
