Frag Fest has put up a basic overclocking guide.

Two factors concern us as to how to make a CPU go faster: Front Side Bus speed (FSB) and the Clock Multiplier.

1. Front Side Bus Speed (FSB)

The bus speed is that at which the speed of every other component in your PC is based on which is achieved by the use of dividers and multipliers. As such this is of more interest to us than the multiplier, because you overclock every component in your system, especially the memory. Bus speeds at the moment are at 100/133 for the Pentium 3´s and effectively 200MHz (but actually 100) for the K7.
