The Guru of 3D: Guru3D Thermal Paste Roundup - Round 2 (2021)

It has been almost two years since we made part 1 of Thermal Paste Roundup. You gave us good feedback for it; thus, we have prepared the second round of that article. As a short reminder - you should already know that the TIM (thermal insulation material) is often overlooked when setting up the PC. Thermal paste is a compound that helps to fill the gaps between the CPU and a cooler that your eyes can't spot. Most users will choose the pre-applied paste or the one provided with a cooler, which should be good enough for the CPU's stock frequencies. The bigger a load of a processor is, the better paster would show its advantage. The last roundup was prepared in 2019. Now we have two years later and a head full of ideas to make it even more interesting than last time.

Anandtech: Best Internal Hard Drives: May 2021

Data storage requirements have kept increasing over the last several years. While SSDs have taken over the role of the primary drive in most computing systems, hard drives continue to be the storage media of choice in areas dealing with large amount of relatively cold data. Hard drives are also suitable for workloads that are largely sequential and not performance sensitive. The $/GB metric for SSDs (particularly with QLC in the picture) is showing a downward trend, but it is still not low enough to match HDDs in that market segment. Since the release of the last HDD guide, we have seen the pricing and availability of the high-capacity models go for a toss, thanks to the cryptocurrency-fueled storage mania as well as global supply chain challenges. These make for an interesting update to our list of recommended hard drives for NAS and desktop usage.

Anandtech: The Inland Performance Plus 2TB SSD Review: Phison's E18 NVMe Controller Tested

Phisons E18 is their second-generation PCIe 4.0 SSD controller, and it keeps them in the running for the fastest consumer SSDs. Micro Centers Inland Performance Plus is the cheapest way to get this much performance, if you live close to one of their retail stores.

LanOC Reviews: Lexar NM620 512GB

While PCIe gen 4.0 drives are starting to trickle into the market now that AMD and Intel both support it on their latest chipsets. The reality is that most PCs out right now still use PCIe gen 3.0 so there is still a lot of need for them. So it isn’t a big surprise to still see companies bringing out new gen 3 drives. A good example of this is the NM620 from Lexar which came out a few months ago which pushes gen 3.0 to its limits. Today I’m going to check out the NM620 to see what Lexar has going on and to see how their new drive performs.

TechPowerUp: Silicon Power XD80 2 TB Review

The Silicon Power XD80 uses a Phison E12 controller paired with 96-layer TLC flash from Toshiba. In our testing, the drive reached performance levels similar to the best PCIe Gen 3 SSDs. Priced at $240 for the 2 TB version, the Silicon Power XD80 is quite affordable, too.
