Bang for the Buck: Samsung SSD 850 Evo 500GB Review

Samsung’s TLC flash-based SSD 840 Evo series set a new benchmark for affordable SSDs last year, going for just $0.65 and performing almost on par with the upper echelon of SSDs. Helping to build anticipation for its successor is the SSD 850 Pro, which to this day is the fastest 2.5" SSD money can buy. Once again, the 850 Evo shares many of the same technologies found in the Pro model, however by using TLC V-NAND it is much more cost effective.

Corsair Graphite 780T Full Tower Case Review

Corsair has recently introduced the Graphite Series 780T full tower Case and graciously sent one for us to review. The design of the cases in the Graphite series mainly use a latching mechanism to open the case side panels, but two models (including the 780T I'm reviewing as well as the 380T) have what I am referring to as a "brow" look to the front and rear panel. These same two models also have a "bulge" design on the sides, and Corsair has attached elongated foot stands that elevate the case to allow for bottom air flow.

Corsair tossed in easily removable air filters, two 140mm LED fans in the front, two 5.25" external drive access spaces, six internal 3.5" or 2.5" drive slide-out mounting trays, three dedicated SSD trays and one 140mm fan in the rear. Next they made mountings for more fans and liquid cooler options, then tossed in a cable management system for good measure.

Then Corsair placed a well thought out power switch, reset button, fan speed control, USB ports and headphone/speaker ports on the front of the top panel for easy access. Now that we a good idea of what to expect, let's get an interesting look at this Graphite 780T case.

Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 Memory Review

In the world of computer components, RAM is rarely ever a hot-topic, unlike processors and graphics cards that see new products come to market every couple of months, with new product generations every year. RAM is essentially always RAM; not much changes very often. Having said that, the last few months have been historic, as computer memory is more exciting than ever. Why? Next-generation DDR4 memory standard has reached mass-market availability and consumers want to know what, if anything has changed.

Well, today we’re going to try to answer some of your questions as we get the pleasure of reviewing Crucial’s Ballistix Sport DDR4-2400 32GB quad-channel memory kit.

D-Link DCH-S150 Wi-Fi Motion Sensor and DSP-W215 Wireless Smart Plug

D-Link is perhaps best known for their networking products, but they do have a line of connected home products to complement the routers and access points people may think of first. Today we will be looking at the DCH-S150 motion sensor and the DSP-W215 smart plug. In addition to these two items, they also offer a wireless camera to round out their connected home product line.

The promotional image above shows off the DSP-W215, and we'll take a closer look at that and its sidekick, the DCH-S150, after taking a look at both products features and specifications.

Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming 4 GB

Gigabyte's GTX 980 G1 Gaming features the most complete output configuration with 3x DP, 2x DVI and 1x HDMI. The card is overclocked out of the box, too, and cooled by a powerful triple-fan thermal solution. In our testing we also found out that Gigabyte has massively increased the power limit, which will be useful for overclockers and voltmodders.

Gigabyte X99 UD4 Motherboard Review

In this review we'll check out the Gigabyte X99 UD4; the more affordable X99 motherboard in the Gigabyte line-up, and we've have had our hands on. It has a nice feature set like SLI/Crossfire support, heaps of SATA3 connectors, M.2., good tweaking features, a near audiophile audio solution, and yeah the means to tweak. Join us in another X99 motherboard review.

The Intel Core i7-5960X and other Haswell-E chips were released on the market in September 2014, based on a new socket LGA2011-V3 infrastructure and DDR4 quad channel memory. The new Haswell-E series being released feature three models: Two 6-core and 1 8 core processor series, intended for the most high-end desktops anno 2014. For Intel is is the first 8 core desktop CPU for consumers. However, Intel has been offering 8 and even 12 core processors in their Xeon server line for quite some time now to the business channel.

With the new haswell-E processor comes a new chipset and slightly revised processor socket. Intel still uses Socket 2011, but its a revision 3 socket, meaning that the older Socket 2011 will not work on the new X99 chipset motherboards. That of course goes both ways, you can not use Haswell-E on say an X79 motherboard.

GIGABYTE X99-SOC Champion Motherboard Review: Low Cost X99 Overclocking

When we ask the motherboard manufacturers about overclocking, most of them say that it is an integral part of their hardware line-up as well as a point to distinguish themselves from the competition. I have been a big fan of the cheaper overclocking oriented models in the mainstream markets, and in order to emulate the success that GIGABYTE has made in that area today they are releasing the X99-SOC Champion aimed at the Haswell-E overclocking crowd. We managed to get a sample in for a launch day review.

Intel Announces 5th Gen Core Mobile Processors, 14nm Cherry Trail At CES 2015

The Consumer Electronics Show is about to get underway, and Intel is leading the pack with a set of CPU announcements. It has been six months since the company took the lid off its first 14nm processor, the Core M, but that CPU is designed for the ultramobile, low-power market. Consumers who wanted to tap Intel's 14nm products in more mainstream notebook hardware had to wait a bit longer until the Q1 2015 time frame.

This new SoC is a "tick" in Intel's tick-tock plan, which means it's mostly a die shrink of the existing Haswell architecture -- at least, on the CPU side. On the GPU side, there's a bevy of improvements and advances, and the video decoder block has been beefed up with dual bit stream decoders in the high-end (GT3) hardware...

Reeven Six-Eyes II Fan Controller Review

"What's that? I can't hear you! My fans are too loud!" Okay, there we go, I shut my computer off. One thing that really bothers a lot of people is how loud their computer is when they equip it with high-performance fans for optimum cooling. Various methods exist to tame the cooling beast when it is not needed to its full extent. Today, we'll be taking a look at the simplest of them all, a fan controller. Reeven isn't exactly a household name in cooling, but it is a rising star in terms of affordable cooling products. There is a long list of competitors in this space, but Reeven thinks it got something new to bring to the table!

Today, Reeven has offered up its extremely versatile Reeven Six-Eyes II, an evolution of the original Six-Eyes fan controller. While the name "Six-Eyes" ushers up memories of a childhood wearing glasses, the name here is appropriate; the Six-Eyes II has six separate LCD screens and six independent fan controls. In addition to that, each screen also hosts a dedicated temperature readout with independent configurable alarms. The last feature I'll save for page two, but don't go skipping through yet!

Swiftech H220-X CPU Liquid Cooling Kit AIO Review

Today we are looking at a Swiftech All-In-One CPU cooler, aka AIO, from a company that has pioneered water cooling in PCs since its inception twenty years ago. We looked at our first Swiftech product about 13 years ago. Swiftech is practically a household name when it comes to water cooling circles. Generally, Switech components are preferred by most enthusiast class users but it is here today to change that perception.

The H220-X is one of Swiftech's first all-in-one kits that brings the extreme level of cooling you'd expect from Swiftech and matches it to the ease of installation we've come to expect from an AIO. There has been a lot of new competition in the AIO market in recent years from companies such as, Corsair, SilverStone, Thermaltake, and Antec. Can Swiftech make a spot for itself in a market it practically created? Let's see if the H220-X is the answer.

Thermaltake Core V21 MATX Case Review

When it came to selecting parts for a small form factor PC you had to be very careful as to what you put into it as they usually did not have much in the terms of cooling. Thus resulting in a PC capable of being used as a Home Theater PC, but not very much more than that.
