The light sensitivity of film is defined by its ISO specification. In digital cameras this sensitivity is simulated by altering the electrical gain of the image sensor. However, as the electrical gain is increased, so the background electrical noise from the sensor also becomes more pronounced. For this reason the camera should strive to keep the ISO setting to a minimum and achieve the correct exposure via aperture and shutter settings only.Read more
