ASRock Z390 Taichi Review

In the first of our new Z390 motherboard reviews, were taking a look at the ASRock Z390 Taichi. This model sits quite high up in the product stack and offers users 2x1G LAN, three PCIe 3.0 x4 M.2 and a total of eight SATA ports. ASRock has taken the unique Taichi design and implemented the new Z390 chipset into the mix for a high-performance and feature-packed offering designed for enthusiasts looking to push the new Intel processors.

ASUS ROG Maximus XI HERO (Wi-Fi) and ROG STRIX Z390-E Gaming Motherboard Review

Intel has come a long way with their mainstream processor platform. The platform has largely seen stagnation in terms of core and thread count over many generations since the first Core series CPU that launched back in 2010 but last year brought a big change to the CPU giant.

Corsair H100i RGB Platinum Closed-Loop Liquid Cooler Review

Addressable RGB LEDs are all the rage in cases, cooling, and fans at the moment. Instead of lighting up in a single color across the entire device, peripherals with addressable RGB LEDs can perform complex lighting effects limited only by the number of LEDs available and the capabilities of the backing hardware and software.

Corsair has made an array of excellent addressable RGB LED fans before now, but the company has never delivered an all-in-one liquid cooler studded with those smarter lights. That changes today with the introduction of the H100i RGB Platinum and H115i RGB Platinum heatsinks.

Corsair H100i RGB Platinum CPU Cooler Review

Corsair is, without a doubt, one of the best-known brands in terms of PC components. This isn’t, however, without very good reason. Put simply, there isn’t much that they don’t have a hand in and with their products usually providing excellent value for money (with great performance) it’s not hard to understand why they do so well.

Perhaps one of their most popular ranges though has to be their AIO liquid coolers. With a huge range to suit almost every need, requirement, or price. They are, by far and away, one of the biggest ‘go-to’ brands for CPU coolers.

Corsair H100i RGB Platinum Review

The H100i RGB Platinum adds to the previous iteration in several ways, including a more pronounced presence of RGB lighting, with multi-zone LED lighting on the pump housing, with 16 individual LEDs, as well as ML120 RGB fans on the radiator. We also see an improved radiator core and copper cold plate which increases surface area and therefore performance.

Corsair H115i Platinum Review

We review the new Corsair Hydro Series H115i, this round the RGB Platinum edition dual-fan 280mm model of the AIO Liquid cooler series that Corsair releases. Corsair has paired the kit with their very best ML PRO Series RGB magnetic levitation PWM fans and a new Multi-zone RGB Backlit pump. The i in that naming means it's software controllable with iCUE software. And that allows you to fire off several performance profiles as well as some sweet RGB bling Corsair at this cooler. The cooler is very silent and certainly brings in proper cooling capacity.

The H115i Platinum LCS cooler has a 280mm radiator with corresponding dual 140mm fans, these are RGB magnetic levitation PWM fans and are controlled by hooking them up towards the pump, which on its end communicates with the iCUE software suite allowing you to program, customize and monitor this all-in-one liquid cooling solution for your processor. The Corsair iCUE app will also allow you to customize LED lighting directly from the software, and new on the pump is a multi-zone LED system with 16 individually (addressable) LEDs bringing RGB towards that next level. These days you can pick a hundred different heatpipe based coolers, where many are shaped, formed and priced the same. The better heatpipe based coolers are good though. Next in line are LCS systems (liquid cooling), the entry-level products are affordable, easy to install pre-fab liquid cooling kits. We've seen and tested many of them as Corsair, Asetek, CoolIT, NZXT, Cooler Master and so on, all have interesting kits. The bigger problem is cooling performance. The gear behind these kits are good yet the performance is often battling a small included 120mm radiator with thin tubing and lacking coolant levels due to missing reservoirs. To compensate FAN RPM goes up making a good looking product noisy again. With that in mind, Corsair started to develop a new H series (for Hydro) coolers.

Corsair H115i RGB Platinum CPU Cooler Review

Over their long history, there are very few of us out there who haven’t used a Corsair product at some time or another. Personally, I know for a fact that I’ve used their RAM, Coolers and power supplies over various systems. Why are they so popular though? Well, it’s quite simple really. They have built an excellent reputation over the years for providing a quality product, easily available, and at an affordable price.

Their AIO (all-in-one) coolers are certainly one their most popular and widely used components.

Corsair Hydro H100i RGB Platinum CPU Cooler Review

The Platinum series is basically a new variation of the Pro series that came out in January 2018 with a handful of key changes that mainly revolve around the fans and pump head. For starters the pump and block technology used on this series is from CoolIT Systems. The Pro series was based on Asetek technology, so the core components of this new series are very different. Corsair explained to us that when they designed the Pro AIO liquid cooler series that it was done so from a quiet performance standpoint for the workloads by normal desktop users. The new Platinum series takes performance up a notch thanks to fans with higher operating ranges, a new pump head design, and some minor radiator changes. This is a good thing as more cooling performance is always welcomed as AMD and Intel keep adding more cores to desktop processors!

Oh, and you get more RGB. These two new models come with a pair of CORSAIR ML PRO Series RGB magnetic levitation PWM fans that have tuned fan profiles to deliver the right airflow and static pressure at all times. There are also 16 individually addressable RGB LED’s in the pump head to go alone with the four in each fan. That means there is a grand total of 24 RGB LEDs that you can control with Corsair iCUE software.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro Review

Apart from the Samsung similarities and lack of headphone jack, everything else about the Mate 20 Pro’s design is pretty unique. The way Huawei’s arranged the three cameras and flash into a single block, for example, make it look something like a crude robot eye. It’s completely different from the more standard layout of the P20 Pro, and is no doubt divisive. I personally like its distinctive appearance, but I’m not a fan of how it protrudes off the back — mainly because I’m worried about it picking up scratches — and its edges also seem to harbor dust. Pretty much every phone has a camera hump, though, and Huawei includes a transparent rubbery sheath that puts a little bit of distance between coffee table and camera glass.

Something everyone can agree on is Huawei’s Twilight color scheme is gorgeous. Compared with the P20 Pro, the Mate 20 Pro has a darker and slightly less-metallic blend of black, purple and blue. The bright red power button is the cherry on top, and anyone grabbing the phone in one of the other colors like green or black is simply doing it wrong. The back glass of the device also has what Huawei calls a “hyper-optical pattern,” which is a slight texturing that’s visually imperceptible on the Twilight model. It’s supposed to repel fingerprints (which isn’t holding true for me) and give it a non-slip effect. This is a legitimate claim. It makes your hand feel a tad clammier where skin touches phone, but the real proof is how it clings to the arm of a sofa when placed at a usually precarious angle. Where the Mate 20 Pro stays put, other glass phones slide right off.

MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Gaming Z 8 GB Review

The MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Gaming Z comes at NVIDIA Founders Edition pricing of $600, yet beats that card in every regard. The cooler is whisper quiet, even during heavy gaming sessions; and when not loaded, the fans turn off completely, thanks to the idle-fan-stop feature.

Philips Momentum 43 4K HDR Monitor Review

Today we're looking at a really ridiculous product, the Philips Momentum 43. Also known as the 436M6VBPAB, the Momentum 43 is a 43-inch 4K HDR "monitor." It's not a TV according to Philips, but a monitor, so apparently they think some people are interested in such a massive display for their PC.

Ubuntu 18.10 Review

Ubuntu 18.10 is the latest version of the Ubuntu Linux operating system. It was released on 18 October as a free download, available for anyone to try, install and use.

It has the untenable task of following April’s warmly-received Ubuntu 18.04 release, something that was never going to be easy.

Six months on, with Ubuntu 18.10 released and available to download, it’s time to find out wether the “Cosmic Cuttlefish” soars to new heights, or sinks under the weight of expectations.

And the answer? Well, it’s a fudge.
