Netgear R7000 Router & EX6200 Extender Review

Since the release of AC1900 wireless routers we here at Hardwarecanucks have tried to cast as wide a net as possible. Everyone ASUS, D-Link, and even Linksys are now represented in our charts, but one company was noticeable by its absence: Netgear. While Netgear may not have the same brand-name recognition as the other three major wireless router manufactures their R7000 'Nighthawk' has quickly gained quite a loyal following. This one device has introduced countless numbers of consumers to what Netgear has to offer.

The reason the Nighthawk has quickly received the attention of consumers is that it has been built from the ground up to outperform the competition. While it may use a Broadcom BCM4000 series System on a Chip as its main processor, unlike most, Netgear has opted for the faster BCM4709 instead of the slower but more common BCM4708. Unlike the 800Mhz BCM4708, the BCM4709 clocks in at brisk 1GHz. This may not sound like much of a difference, but an extra 200Mhz offers a lot more performance in high stress environments. Mix in three large and powerful external antennas, an aggressive angular form factor and the R7000 looks as fast as it is purported to be.

Thankfully, with an online asking price of $180 the Nighthawk is actually quite affordable compared to some of its compatriots. In fact the R7000 is now actually one of the lowest priced AC1900 options available today.

Noctua redux Series Review

n 2012 and 2013, Noctua released A-series fans based on their new silent PWM circuit, new impeller designs and lots of little nuances that added up to new levels of performance. But then, what did Noctua do with their old fans? Now we have an answer. In May of this year Noctua have released their redux series of fans. There are 13 fans in this series. Each fan is a clone of an earlier retail Noctua fan, or a variation on one of the earlier fans, with three changes: they come with almost no accessories, they are packed in cardboard boxes that are easily recyclable, and they have swapped their old tan-and-brown color scheme for shades of gray. Oh yes – Noctua now offers their accessories as separate items. This review will cover most of those fans, and all the accessories.

The Noctua redux fans come in four sizes and five form factors – the NF-R8 redux, the NF-B9 redux, the NF-S12A redux, the NF-P14r redux and the NF-P14s redux. Each of the redux fans has an SSO bearing, and as we shall see, except for their colors they are identical to their non-redux predecessors. All of the redux fans come with 40 cm (8 inch) power cords.

If there is one topic that has always fascinated me outside of what I normally study, it will have to be time travel. And while the whole concept of time travel is purely theoretical (At least we can say, "What do we want? Time travel! When do we want it? It does not matter!"), it does stem from a lot of well proven concepts such as quantum mechanics, and other conjectures that are purely hypothetical, such as the multi world interpretation. Now, to someone who does not spend five hours a day on Wikipedia reading up on information that will only be useful in a knowledge faceoff against your friends, or write an introduction to a review here at APH Networks, Erwin Schrödinger proposed a thought experiment in 1935 to interpret quantum mechanics in terms of everyday objects. Basically, Schrödinger's cat describes a scenario where, inside a sealed box, the cat inside can be both alive and dead at the same time, as its state is linked to events that happened prior. This concept is often applied to the multiverse hypothesis, where every event is a branch point. In this configuration, the cat can be both alive and dead even after the box is opened. This is made possible by interpreting them in different branches of the universe, where are both equally real, but also fully independent of each other. Unfortunately, in the world we live in, no matter how hard you try, the cat is going to be either alive or dead, not alive and dead at the same time. You really cannot get the fact of both universes.
