Cables Unlimited sent me over their Wireless USB Kit with Transmitter and Receiver with Base out for review a bit ago, and it allows us to make our USB ports cable free. The kit includes two USB thumbdrive like devices, power adapter and a base for the receiver. The base acts like an adapter, the actual receiver has a male USB connection on it, the base has two female connections, one inside and one outside to plug in your peripheral that you want to make wireless, the power adapter is used to provide power to the external wireless USB adapter.

As a proof of concept the 3DVision is an excellent piece of tech and we confess that if it worked well with existing screens then as hardcore gamers we'd probably be tempted to go out and get one ourselves. If you're looking to spend some cash on a tech toy outside the necessary keyboard and mouse and instead of other worthy upgrades, compared to the questionably working OCZ NIA or the excellent but ultimately restricted Novint Falcon, it's worth the cash on 3DVision.

The requirement for a totally new monitor though is what knocks the legs out from underneath the 3DVision, taking it off the market for those who were after a big boys toy. As an unproven technology it needs to be cheap enough for interested parties to buy it on a whim so they can check it out and tell their friends -- and the one thing that 3D gaming //still isn't; is cheap enough for the average consumer.

That said it is worth bearing in mind that this is still cutting edge technology and that such stuff is always expensive. As time goes by those who are just behind the curve will start to catch up and the 3DVision will become a technology which is more viable beyond just the corporate or early-adopter market - and we can't wait!

Techconnect Magazine has just posted a performance comparison of Nvidia GeForce 185.20 beta drivers.

Everywhere you turn these days you see people saying that 2009 will be tough, with economic recession, more trouble in the Middle East and the filming of BloodRayne 3. Despite the grim outlook, this year has started on a high note for Nvidia graphics card owners as a new GeForce driver bearing a new feature and the potential of improved performance got trapped in the spider-less world wide web. Also coming with a rather high number jump - from 180.70/87/88 to 185.20, the driver features support for every GeForce desktop card from the 6 series up and adds a new tab in the Nvidia Control Panel that enables Ambient Occlusion, a lighting model that's supposed to bring more realism to 3D games.

Well after some time testing the HD 4550, I found its strengths and weaknesses. First, this card is excellent for video use, whether it be for a workstation PC, a casual use PC, or even a home theater PC. Since it is a low profile card with the bracket included for smaller cases, you will not have any problems getting this card to fit. Being actively cooled will keep the operating temperatures down when inside a small case such as a cramped HTPC case. The Sapphire HD 4550 however should not be taken lightly because of its size. While it was last in all of the video benchmarks, some of the tests were actually playable at the settings tested at. Lighten up on the settings between low and medium and you should be able to pull off reasonable frame rates for some casual gaming. Don't expect to crush any records though. With only 80 stream processors and a 64-bit memory BUS, you are limited on how fast you can perform in games in benchmarks. Trying to overclock this card was like hitting a brick wall, literally. I could not get past the limits of the Catalyst Control Center, no matter what overclocking tool I used. It would just lock up and I had to reboot.

In a nutshell, it's basically just a wireless access point that connects to your existing 802.11b/g router. The connection to your existing router is not wireless; instead, TrendNet provides you with a short Ethernet cable. The idea, I guess, is that you can effectively keep your existing wireless settings on your existing wireless modem, while being able to blanket the same area in a sea of high-speed 802.11n goodness. You upgrade to wireless-N without having to replace your existing router.

The Essence STX is not only a great member of the Xonar family, it’s the best sounding board I've ever heard in this price bracket. I'm sure it will leave a lasting impression in the minds of competitors and may even send a few back to the chalk boards, scratching their heads. But most of all, I think it’s the age old cliché; `attention to detail` that lifts the STX above the crowd with some really nice components chosen and a very high degree of build quality, as with all ASUS products.
