NVIDIA ION hands on review
The Guru of 3D posted NVIDIA ION hands on review

One of the most popular and trendy gadgets of 2008 and 2009 are netbooks. Small, easy to carry around laptops powered by an Intel Atom processor. While an Atom based netbook is decent enough for browsing the web, listening to your favorite tunes and a little spreadsheet action, it obviously lacks that 'next level' laptop experience we've gotten accustomed to.

This is where NVIDIA today will jump in, officially announcing their ION platform. ION is NVIDIA's idea of what a netbook, HTPC or mini-PC should be like. They take the Atom processor series, and planted it onto their GF9400M chipset with embedded graphics processor.

The result are pretty baffling, as all of the sudden we can decode Blu-ray movies and high-definition content. We can transcode content over the embedded GPU, and thanks to the much faster and versatile infrastructure the GF9400G chipset offers, the overall experience is better and faster.

Guru3D has a hands on experience with NVIDIA's ION prototype mini-PC. It'll do all as described above, based on a Single Core Intel Atom 230 processor, we'll even do so on Windows Vista. Interesting technology for netbooks, mini-PCs and even HTPCs.

Let's have a look at this petite device, sized not bigger than two pears. You can read this article at the following direct URL.

NVIDIA Ion Small Form Factor PC, A Deep Dive
HotHardware.com posted a review on the NVIDIA Ion Small Form Factor PC

In early January, back from our road trip to Vegas with CES show buzz and bewilderment still fresh in our minds, we brought you a video interview with Drew Henry, General Manager of NVIDIA's MCP products. Drew gave us a first-hand glimpse at a new small form factor PC platform that NVIDIA was developing based on their recently released GeForce 9400M chipset with integrated graphics. In this new era of HTPCs, netbooks, nettops and all things tiny, NVIDIA's Ion reference platform for the Intel Atom processor offers the promise of an ultra low-profile, low power device that quite literally fits in the palm of your hand, and thus could be easily tucked away in various small places in a number of different usage models.

We've only had it in our test labs for a few days, but we thought we'd share with you our first impressions and a deeper dive on the performance and features of Ion, which will give you a sense of what lies ahead for the platform, as retail products are introduced to market, hopefully in the not too distant future.

Western Digital TV HD Media Player Review
ITreviewed posted a review on the Western Digital TV HD Media Player

All of us have large digital libraries that are all but trapped on our computers. In order to play our content on our TV we have to struggle with clumsy solutions such as copying onto multiple CDs and DVDs or connecting our PCs to our TV via wires or complicated home networking solutions. The WD TV HD Media Player enables anyone to easily access their high-definition content on the biggest screen in the home in a matter of minutes. Using the WD TV HD Media Player couldn't be any simpler - plug in a storage device and the unit will automatically scan it for multimedia and automatically add the files to its library, which is split up into video, audio, and images. That's it! WD is onto a winner here, as long as you don't crave a fantastic selection of outputs (including Ethernet), 5.1 surround sound, and expandability with optional extras like Wi-Fi and a Freeview receiver.

Intel i7 965 Processor & DX58SO Smackover Motherboard Review
Virtual-Hideout posted a review o the Intel i7 965 Processor & DX58SO "Smackover" Motherboard

Obviously, where the i7 system really excels is currently the more professional content creation folks. (That's right, I called you professionals.) These are the audio, video, and graphic rendering folks who thrive on faster compilation and rendering times. This also includes users who like encoding their movies to other media formats like DivX and iPod players. CC enthusiasts are definitely going to enjoy the faster multi-tasking performance. I guess the only other noticeable results will be the squabbling as you wait for your aging ROM drive to catch up.

Western Digital Velociraptor Review
t-break posted a review on the Western Digital Velociraptor

The Raptor is now a 2.5" drive although don't get your hopes up about equipping in into your notebook- its power requirements and height wont allow you to do that. While the 2.5" form factor is nice, it means that you'll probably end up buying the 5.25" IcePAK heatsink/cage for it separately which could be a bummer.
