I'm rather glad ASUS stuck with the Rampage Extreme branding as it lets me say stuff like EEEEXXXXTRRREEEEMMMMMEEE in daily conversation. I know in just writing this article I've mumbled that to myself a half-dozen times with a grin on my face. I have a feeling the Rampage III Extreme will be another board that goes down in the history books for high performance. The ASUS R3E motherboard though won't be limited in appreciation to just those people who benchmark with liquid nitrogen and dry ice. A lot of thought was put into the layout and the fact that it has an ATX form factor height means it'll enable 4-way CrossFire in a normal ATX case unlike the EVGA X58 Classified 4-Way SLI which fits in only a handful of cases...ASUS X58 Rampage III Extreme Motherboard Preview

HotHardware checked out the OCZ Vertex Limited Edition SSD
When we first took a look at OCZ's Vertex 2 Pro series SSD back in February, we noted that our evaluation was a product "preview" due to the fact that the product was still being finalized in many ways and wasn't yet available on the open market. Little did we know that exact product would never see the light of day in retail. In fact, the Vertex Limited Edition SSD that we're taking a look at here today, will only be available in a limited 5K unit batch release from OCZ. That's not to say that good things don't come in limited quantities though. In fact, the Vertex Limited Edition SSD impresses like no drive we've seen before over a 3Gbps SATA interface.OCZ Vertex Limited Edition SSD Review

This time around Scythe have sized it up by selecting a 140mm PWM fan that spins at 500-1300RPM, instead of the standard 120mm size. AMD has dominated the HTPC market for some time now with their impressive IGP line-up. The 790GX chipset sporting integrated Radeon HD 3300 graphics and the 785G with its built-in Radeon HD 4200 GPU have gone beyond what Intel has been able to offer by a long stretch until just recently, not only in terms of performance but also value to the consumer.Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 Motherboard Review

Today we'll be looking at the new AMD 890GX chipset, featuring Radeon HD 4290 integrated graphics and SATA 3.0 (6 Gbps) support.
Showing off the 890GX is the Asus M4A89GTD Pro/USB3. This new AM3 motherboard features a 10-phase CPU VRM supporting future AMD CPUs with a 140W TDP, namely the upcoming hexacore processors. AMD did an awesome job refreshing its I/O solution. The SB850, packing six SATA 6Gbps connections natively, gives an edge to the AMD platform. I knew under water I could push the voltage a bit more, so I topped it at 1.5V and pushed the reference clock and multiplier a bit more and was able to boot at 4.3GHz but it was not stable enough to pass benchmarks so I tapped them down a bit and found a sweet spot at 4.226GHz, where everything ran stable and the temperatures were still low. For the final overclocking settings, the processor is at 4.226GHz (216.7MHz x 19.5) at 1.5V and the memory was set at 1733MHz with timings of 7-7-7-20.ASUS M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 890GX Motherboard Review

AMD has been having great success with their HD 5xxx line. These GPUs are not only the only DX11 parts on the market at the moment, but have performance that out does just about every offering from NVIDIA. However, they have not been doing overly well in the chipset and CPU market. Here they have been outdone by Intel consistently over the last few years.ASUS M4A89GTD Pro/USB3 (AMD 890GX) Motherboard Review

It has been quite a while since AMD launched a new high-end desktop chipset. The 790FX has been riding high at the top of AMD's line-up for over two years now. It has been paired to newer Southbridge chips and AMD did follow up with the 790GX about a year and half ago, but for all intents and purposes AMD's flagship desktop chipset has remained unchanged for what is equivalent to an eternity in Internet-years.AMD 890GX SB850 Chipset Debut: Phenom II X6 Ready
Today, however, a new chipset will finally supplant the 790FX/GX at the top of AMD's line-up, the 890GX. As its name suggests, the 890GX features an integrated graphics core, but there's more to the story than just graphics. AMD has specifically stated that the 890GX will officially support upcoming 6-Core Phenom II X6 processors and courtesy of a new Southbridge, the SB850, the AMD 890GX is the first core logic chipset to natively support SATA 6G...
