Really, the only complaint I have about the 11X is the mounting solutions. While the cooler is very secure with this mounting scheme, I miss the ease with which most previous Zalman coolers could be installed, even inside the case.

In the short time all-in-one water coolers have been on the market, it has been basically two styles to choose from. One with a large, round bulky head, and what I think is a weak mounting system, or the other variant which offers a much better mounting setup, similar results, but usually demands a higher price upon purchase. There wasn't, up until now, any way around this. You had to make that choice and live with your decision. Why can't we just get the best of both worlds?

Corsair says we can! They are now offering a reworked version of the all-in-one coolers we have already seen, the H50 and H70 from the Hydro series. Now imagine this. Take the low profile nature of the H70 head unit, redesign it a bit and make it very low-profile, and entirely redesign the mounting hardware. This newer version keeps the corrugated plastic covered rubber hoses of the previous two units. The radiator of choice for this newer reincarnation is the thinner model from the H50.

MSI hits the scene with their own version of the AMD HD 6950. This features the Twin Frozr II cooling solution and has a price point slightly above where most reference HD 6950s sit. When combined with MSI's Afterburner software, this card becomes an interesting tool in a gamer's arsenal. We find out how it runs when combined with the Catalyst 11.4 Preview Driver, which delivers some significant improvements in performance for the Cayman family of chips.

Personally I like the card. I was disappointed I could not mod it successfully to a HD 6970, but even in stock form the card is not slow. I am doing some “long term” testing on this particular model in my main machine, clocked at a much more mundane 900 MHz core and 1350 MHz memory. This has provided a nice performance boost, all the while producing less sound than the more aggressive overclock I did while testing. So far the card has worked flawlessly at this speed, and it has handled every application I have thrown at it with aplomb.
