Cooler Master popped into the bit-tech offices the other day and was keen to let us in on its new brand - *Cooler Master Storm.* Cooler Master explained it was diversifying - no longer can you make one case series to suit all, and in that regard //Storm will become its brand with a focus on features for gamers.

So is this another company jumping on the "gamer" bandwagon then? Hmm, to some degree, yes, but it's more of a long consultation and careful consideration rather than knee jerk reaction - the product developers told us that the first three cases that will launch this coming winter (likely December) could have been launched three times already. It seems odd that more many case manufacturers are just now designing "gaming" cases, especially as Antec and Thermaltake have come to dominate this market segment in the past two years.

Cooler Master are hoping this isn't the case though (sorry, bad pun), and it has done yet another tour of Europe in order to get more opinions about the design and feature set to get it right from the outset - it's taking the Storm brand very seriously. The hint was that we'll likely see PSUs and all number of Cooler Master products under the / /Storm brand, although if they'll all be specifically tailered to work together in style/design or hardware features, we're not yet sure.

The / /Sniper case brought in was *very early sample* built around the Cosmos chassis, although the features built into it are Storm-grade. This case is the *smallest* /that will be available, with two others increasing in height that'll rival somewhere in the region of the Lian Li X2000, apparently. To counterbalance the loss of stability, Cooler Master said the tallest will also have a fatter bottom too, although we find it hard to imagine what this will look like.

I’ve never had the chance to look at a graphics card from Point of View before, but now is as good a time as any to start. When word came through that the first card the company would ever be sending to me would be the 9500 GT, I felt kind of sorry for them. Clearly they didn’t read my original review of the 9500 GT from Leadtek.

I made my thoughts pretty clear on the card, offering half the performance of the 9600 GSO but not half the price. This absolutely killed any form of value for money the product offered. Apart from being cheap, there wasn’t really much else the card could offer; even if you were extremely tight when it came to the money side of things, we recommended that you simply bite your lip for a few more weeks and save to buy something from the 9600 series.

It pleases me to say that the price of the Moncaso 972 is more affordable than the 932 when it first launched. When the 932 was brand new, it required a $700 to $800 premium which was quite steep for many to afford. The 972 comes in at about the $500 which will attract far more users. The quality of the entire product reflects the money is well spent. Perhaps in the future, we may could see the possibility of more drive storage for dual optical drive use. Or, maybe we'll see vertically mounted drive bays to increase hard drive count as well as a hot swappable bay or two. The concepts are endless. The idea of an optional keyboard has it's pros and cons. On the one hand, you're stuck with their software and limited keyboard features. And on the other hand, if you get to pick the one you want, you're happy. The enclosure continues its legacy of refinement. It's a testament to Moneual in just how quickly their designs and concepts have grown in the HTPC market. It would seem that there is very little that can be improved upon in this enclosure. It's inspiring to think what we can expect from Moneual and the Moncaso HTPC series in the near future.
