It used to be the case that for any given monitor size, you knew the resolution you would be getting. 17 and 19in gave you 1,280 x 1,024 and moving up to a 20 or 21in LCD display would get you to the heady heights of 1,600 x 1,200. However, since the world has gone widescreen, it’s got a little confusing. Most widescreen displays start at 20in and have a resolution of 1,680 x 1,050 and the next size up is 24in at 1,920 x 1,200. However, we’ve recently seen a 21in Samsung offering 1680 x 1050 and we’ve also seen a 19in widescreen from Asus with an awkward resolution of 1,440 x 900. If you’re an iMac fan you’ll also get this resolution on the 17in model.

Back in March I reviewed the T-Mobile MDA Vario, which was a cool little Windows Mobile device with a slide out keyboard. Although I liked the Vario, I found myself more impressed with the Orange SPV M5000, which although larger, had the advantage of 3G support. Of course what I really wanted was a cross between the two – a device with the dimensions of the Vario, but the 3G support of the SPV M5000. Well, it appears that wishes do come true, because that’s exactly what I’ve got on my desk right now.. Inclusion in your news postings would be much appreciated.

Obviously there are better 2 gig kits on the market with tighter timings, but in this price range the memory is spot on with the crucial being nearly a whole 1/3 cheaper than the lower latency modules. That for me despite the lower timings of the pricier kits makes this kit ideal for those that want speed but are on a tighter budget.
