If you have an entirely closed system and have gone to extreme lengths elsewhere first: fans, hard drives and heatsinks, then yes it will take that extra bit more off. But then again, if you've been that pedantic anyway with your components why didn't you consider a "silent and insulated" case from the start? There's only so much you can do using this and the performance is ultimately depicted by what case it's stuck into.

The Be Quiet! Noise Absorber kit itself works well, but ultimately it's not a product you should jump to first hand -- prevention is better than a cure, as they say. Compared to Akasa PaxMate at least I'd certainly recommend this in preference, and considering how much some professional matting costs, I'd again look at this as a nice medium. Be Quiet! has currently very few retailers in the UK though, so it might be hard to get hold of, but if it's really what you're after then the more noise you make the more motivation people will have to stock it.

So noise absorption kits might not be the highest thing on everyone's shopping list, but it seems Be Quiet! might have good product in a niche us modders might need.

On the other hand a power supply of this magnitude, from a manufacturer's point of view, should be installed in a full tower file server or a hard core gamer's rig, but even with these two variables, one is not going to be using the full gambit of SATA leads, and the other is not going to be using the multiple graphics card leads.

Another part of the equation here is that the noise generated by the fans and pump in the case is minimal compared to the air-cooled CM Stacker the system used to be in. Dropping the noise level while giving the CPU and GPUs some additional cooling were two things that have been an issue in the past. Air cooling is a compromise; you have killer cooling but the the noise penalty is huge. Not so with the Danger Den setup we have put together. Without sophisticated sound testing equipment, it is hard to quantify the results, but the ringing in my ears is now gone at the end of the night. The Papst fans that were used are rated at a 30dB, and I truly cannot hear them with the case buttoned up. I was afraid the DD5 pump would really put out a lot of noise, but again was pleasantly surprised at the noise level that it performed at, almost dead silent. During the leak testing, I had to keep grabbing it to make sure it was still running. Talk about a serious change, it's amazing.

PC Perspective has taken the information that AMD is providing today at the official Barcelona and compiled it together in a preview article.
