The 802.11n series of wireless products trumps the 802.11g standards. I was able to run a SpeedTest.net benchmark at 300 feet from the location of the router. I must add that the location was in a residential area inundated with wireless routers and a cellular tower (about six blocks away). The location of the router was located 25' within the home on the first floor. This being the case, we started with the laptop on the front steps of the home (25' from the router). Next, we went to the sidewalk (another ~25'). After the sidewalk, we crossed the street and stood in front of the first home (~150' from router). We then continued to the third house (another 150') to which continuing past this third house resulted in a lost or unreliable connection. From installation to extended range of use, the 802.11n standard has shown itself as worthy of the industry's adoption.

Some USB drives use various methods to secure the precious data on the memory stick, but these software methods only logically lock the drive or encrypt its contents. One of the problems with a software method is that the protection can be circumvented by using another OS or running a password-checking program.

Corsair has delivered an answer to this problem with their Padlock line of USB flash drives. These drives use a physical numeric keypad, combined with a hardware mechanism to lock or unlock the drive before use. Once locked, no computer will be able to use it, regardless of the platform. The hardware protects the drive at its lowest level, so not even a drive letter is mapped.

Our last product that had anything to do with heat conductivity was the Liquid Metal pads we reviewed from Coollaboratory. A super thin piece of heat conduction pad made from metal. Which indeed worked marginally better than some Arctic Silver 5, but wasn't as user friendly. The Liquid Metal pads are new, but Coollaboratory first came out a long time ago with their Liquid Pro. Liquid metal in a little syringe that should work as good, or even better than thermal paste. Let's see if this works just as good as the Liquid Metal pads.

IDF Fall 2007: PCI Express 3.0, Intel's new Interconnect and Skulltrail
PC Perspective has published an article from IDF that looks at PCI Express 3.0, Intel's new CPU interconnect to rival HyperTransport and of course, the dual-processor Skulltrail gaming beast.

The system features dual 3.0 GHz Yorkfield processors on the Xeon-based Stoakley motherboard platform. This of course means it is using FB-DIMMs which is a bit of a letdown, but we can deal with it for the performance the system is able to get. The CPUs are liquid cooled; a setup that Intel claims will be standard for all Skulltrail systems.

Not wanting to only compare the QuickCam Pro to itself, I also fired up the iSight on my Mac. Although there was no software installed, the Mac picked up that there was a camera and set it to be used as the default inside of Photo Booth. I took image captures at the default settings since I was unable to alter the settings on the Mac. As can be seen, the image quality of the QuickCam Pro is a lot better. Colors are more vibrant and video is smoother. This lays waste to the built-in competition without looking back. The first one is the QuickCam and the second is the iSight. The flash from the Mac's software hurt the image quality a little on both pictures, but they are still pretty good representatives of the type of quality you would get out of them.
