Samsung SM2693HM 25.5" widescreen monitor Review
bit-tech published a review of Samsung's SM2693HM 25.5" widescreen monitor

If you've worked your way diligently through this review you will by now be thinking the 2693HM is something of a stinker. With the crappy colours, poor black tones, crushed whites, mediocre viewing angles, it certainly doesn't score highly in many areas.

It's still a strangely likeable display, though. The size and pixel pitch are a nice compromise for gamers who also use their rigs for productivity applications (well, just as long as colour accuracy isn't crucial), but it's definitely not one for anyone who is looking to edit a lot of digital photographs.

The quality of the chassis and stand also lends a subtle but significant feel good factor. The adjustability is a boon on a display in this price range, because most of its competitors ship models without height adjustment and pivot capabilities - the former is a feature we believe is incredibly important on a screen of this size.

Therefore, if you can live with the fidelity issues, it's a big, bright, spectacular monitor that's great for gaming and basic productivity or web browsing.

On a final and pretty important note, we've noticed that prices are unusually variable for the SyncMaster 2693HM. Pixmania lists it at a little over $B!r(B300 while the normally well-priced Overclockers.co.uk wants over $B!r(B400. Make sure, therefore, that you shop around if this display whets your appetite.

HD 4850 / 4870 / Golden Sample and Bliss 9600 GSO Golden Sample
Digit-Life posted a review on the HD 4850 / 4870 / Golden Sample and Bliss 9600 GSO Golden Sample

Gainward used to be NVIDIA's stronghold that didn't even consider manufacturing graphics cards on competing GPUs. But times changed and Gainward, as part of Palit, decided to make products based on AMD (ATI) GPUs.

Gainward GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB Graphics Card Review
TweakTown takes a look at the Gainward GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512MB Graphics Card

Like most companies, Gainward has released a 9800 GTX+, but unlike most other companies, they’ve taken the time to do something with it. Today we find out what exactly that is and if it can make the 9800 GTX+ a little more exciting.

Unlike the HD 4850 we looked at from Gainward the other day, this card doesn’t come in under the Golden Sample naming scheme. That doesn’t mean that it’s not going to be an exciting card, though, so let’s check out the package before we take a closer look at the card.

Zalman CNPS-9300 AT CPU Cooler Review
Bjorn3D takes a look at the Zalman CNPS-9300 AT CPU Cooler.

It’s tough to create a new fan and heatsink combo that stands out in the water-based world of high-end PC cooling. Modern fans still have a lot of huff and puff, but they are no match for new, silent radiators that completely immerse components in a low-temperature environment.

The beauty of the fan and heatsink is in its simplicity, and these easy-to-install solutions offer users a nice performance bump without a big commitment. There’s no doubt that water cooling is a formidable project. Chances are, if you haven’t already gotten your feet wet, you’re going to need a whole new case or some clever mods on the one you’ve got now. Taking the time to properly plan the whole thing out is enough to drive would-be overclockers back to their trusty fans and keep the air-based units blowing in from diverse manufacturers.

Although the market for these products is solid, true innovations are few and far between because no matter how clever CPU cooler designers get, there is always a fundamental return to the two principles of size and shape.

The Korean-based PC cooling veteran Zalman Tech gets pretty ambitious within this formula and brings tried and true concepts together with the appealing design of the CNPS-9300 AT.

AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 CrossFireX performance review
Elite Bastards posted AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 CrossFireX performance review

At idle and during video playback, we see an increase of around 70 to 80 Watts in the move from a single board to dual Radeon HD 4870 X2 - Not too bad, although 300 Watts just for Blu-Ray playback in a CrossFireX setup is rather a scary thought.

If that seems bad, you might want to look away before taking in our 3D rendering performance numbers - Almost 400 Watts for a single Radeon HD 4870 X2 is hefty, but with two boards in tandem you're looking at closer to 700 Watts, with power consumption likely to rise even higher in situations where both CPU and GPU are being pushed hard by a modern game title. Ouch.

MSI R3870X2-T2D1G-OC Radeon HD 3870 X2 Videocard Review
PC Stats posted MSI R3870X2-T2D1G-OC Radeon HD 3870 X2 Videocard Review

As its name suggests, MSI's R3870X2-T2D1G-OC videocard is the
combination of two ATI HD 3870 GPUs on a single PCB to provide gamers with a ready-made crossfire gaming solution. MSI has packed in 1GB of DDR3 VRAM, 512MB for each GPU, and as you might assume from the 'OC' portion of the nomenclature, the stock speed of the twin 3870 GPUs has been increased from their stock 825MHz to a respectable 860MHz out of the box.

Thermaltake V9 Case Review
Hardware Secrets posted Thermaltake V9 Case Review

Thermaltake V9 is steel mid-tower case targeted to gamers and usually when the manufacturer says that a case is targeted to gamers this means a good cooling system: this case has one 230-mm fan on the top panel, one 120-mm fan on the rear and one 120-mm fan on the front, plus the mesh used on the side panels use very big holes. V9 has also four 5 ¼" bays, two external 3 ½" bays and five internal 3 ½" bays, with the 5 ¼" bays and the internal 3 ½" ones featuring a screwless fastening mechanism. Let's take a complete look on this new release from Thermaltake.

Tuniq Ensemble 1200w Power Supply Review
Virtual-Hideout posted Tuniq Ensemble 1200w Power Supply Review

The Tuniq Ensemble 1200 Watt Power Supply is the single largest PSU tested to date. There's obviously an enormous amount of power produced by the unit as well as an extremely respectable power efficiency rating. When purchasing this kind of PSU, you expect stable, reliable voltages for optimal system performance and it does not fail to deliver either. Granted it's large and heavy, but again, when you need this kind of power, comfort is the last thing you should concerned about. It's the Hercules of power supplies.

Corsair HX520W Review
OCC has published a new review on the Corsair HX520W

I would highly recommend the Corsair HX520W to anyone considering mid-range graphics cards in SLI or Crossfire but perhaps it's a little underpowered for the serious gamer/overclocker. The Corsair HX520W is Nvidia certified for up to, but not including, the 7800GTX and is listed on the Nvidia website in the "For all other SLI configurations" section. This will no doubt put the majority of gamers considering an SLI or Crossfire setup off this power supply but if you require one for an Internet, office and single graphics card PC then look no further, the Corsair HX520W would be a wise choice.

Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME CPU Cooler Review
TweakTown posted a review on the Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME CPU Cooler

Swiss Engineering, Rolex, Army Knives, Arctic Cooling? All of these companies make a play on their Swiss heritage, but only one can be considered true value. Arctic Cooling has mesmerized with their products released in 2008, starting with their Freezer XTREME line of VGA coolers. Not only were the two samples sent over last year worthy of a rave review, but the price was in some cases half that of lesser performing VGA coolers.

Arctic Cooling is back at it with another XTREME product, this time for the CPU. The new Arctic Cooling Freezer XTREME is closely linked to the VGA cooler line and design characteristics are shared between the two; mainly a large surface area to dissipate heat. The Xtra large Freezer XTREME uses four heatpipes to channel heat from the processor to a very large area of oversized cooling fins. If you have seen the VGA cooler line, this sounds and looks familiar.
