Central Processing Units tend to run really hot when you're overclocking. There are some really good air cooling solutions available out there, but for some of us it's just not good enough. Wanting to squeeze every last drop of performance out of a piece of equipment drives us. Water cooling is a little more expensive than air cooling, but with that extra expense comes extra performance. Having tested a lot of 'out of the box' solutions, we've never found an out of the box solution that can match the performance of a 'Do it Yourself' water cooling setup. One of the most critical components of water cooling is the pump. Too small of a pump and the coolant moves too slowly and heat builds up. Too large a pump and the water moves too fast and the radiator doesn't get a chance to remove the heat. So how do you find a pump that fits your needs without going through a stack of pumps?

Nvidia GPUs support DX10.1 features in Far Cry 2
bit-tech has learned that Nvidia GPUs will support the DirectX 10.1 features implemented into Far Cry 2 via an extension to DirectX 10 that's supported in all of Nvidia's DirectX 10 hardware.

The Ubisoft team wanted to enhance the anti-aliasing through the reading of the multisampled depth Z-buffers, explained Vincent Greco, Worldwide Production Technical Coordinator at Ubisoft. "This feature was enabled by either using DX10.1 or using a DX10.0 extension supported by Nvidia DirectX 10 GPUs."

All of Nvidia's DirectX 10 GPUs support a superset of DX10, but don't fully support all of DirectX 10.1's requirements so Nvidia cannot claim compliance with DX10.1.

The cut-down version of RV770 used in the Radeon HD 4830 has two of these SIMD cores disabled, giving a total of 640 Stream Processors for it to play with, together with eight dedicated texturing units.

The Radeon HD 4830 features that cut-down RV770 core we mentioned with a couple of SIMD cores disabled, as well as clock speeds lower than the higher priced Radeon HD 4850, which sees it utilising a GPU core clock of 575MHz, with the 512MB of GDDR3 memory on-board clocked at 900MHz (1800MHz effective).

Overall I was pleased to work with this case. Hardware installation was straight forward, although a little time intensive. All temperatures were well within safe ranges, even on low fan speeds, which kept the case nearly inaudible up close. The look of the Antec Micro Fusion 350 would fit in well with any home theater, and the cooling capabilities along with reinforced top panel allow for it to be stacked with other devices. Vents located on the top panel allow the processor heat sink fan to suck in fresh air, while the bottom panel helps cool the motherboard. The remote control is small, simple, and works well even across the room. Also, the front panel LCD display will scroll news gathered online while it is not being used for media purposes, and will display the name of any media being used - movie names, music titles, even the time and date. It is very nice to have an included remote, as it would be a hassle to purchase one separately.

AMD has had a very good year when it comes to graphics cards. The HD4000-series has proved to be competitive in basically every segment and the best proof for this is the fact that it has forced NVidia to rethink their pricing-structure and lower prices to meet the competition.

If we look at the various models we however notice a small gap in the line-up. The gap obviously is between the HD4670 and the HD 4850. Either you spend around $80 or take a steep step up to $150 and above. The GPU that we are going to talk about today is aimed to fill that gap and give users an opportunity to get more speed while still not having to pay for the HD 4850. The GPU is of course the HD 4830 and the RSSP is $100 - $150.

HIS was kind enough to send over their newest card, the HIS HD 4830 Fan (Full HD 1080p) HDMI and it is that card we will review at the same time as we present the HD 4830.
