Aten Laptop USB KVM Switch CS661 Review
TestFreaks.com posted a review on the Aten Laptop USB KVM Switch CS661

When we think of KVMs we think of a switch of some kind that allows one to control several computers with just one keyboard and mouse, but there are other kinds as well. Aten has sent me over what they are calling a Laptop USB KVM Switch, what is does it allow you to take over another computer via a USB connection, essentially creating a remote desktop session via USB. When active, the main or local computer takes over the controls of the remote computer and you see it's desktop on the lock computer. In the name is 'laptop', but it can be used to connect any PCs together this way. The switch also has a USB port in it to allow sharing of a printer or other device as well, along with a built in GUI and file sharing as well. There's no software to install, everything is self contained, and it even includes a convenient carrying case.

Thermaltake Max ORB EX Review
Bjorn3D takes a look at the Thermaltake Max ORB EX

Not too many people can remember the days when we didn’t have too many options for cooling a CPU. I can personally recall using many zip ties to fasten a higher speed fan on top of an OEM Intel or AMD cooler and then manipulating dip-switches and jumpers on the motherboard to bump up the FSB and voltages for a friendly 5% overclock. It didn’t take too long for several companies to get a clue, and before you knew it you had several coolers to choose from. One of those originators came to be known simply as the TT ORB. It was a low-profile, low-noise cooler that was easy to mount and use on a socket 370 CPU, and provided decent enough cooling for overclocking. It was an inexpensive pioneering achievement, to say in the least, and Thermaltake really started making a name for themselves due to their innovative philosophy.

Affordable Graphics Cards Roundup
InsideHW.com has tested 14 graphics cards from low mid-range.

New battle on GPU battlefield that started with launch of RV770 GPU and as consequence had price drops on both sides: greens (nVIDIA) and reds (ATi). Because of that we have a lot of different products in relatively small price range. Inevitable deformations occurred in product lineup creating situation where different products can have identical prices. All that confusion is worsened thanks to strange nVIDIA product markings and ATi's stubbornness when it comes to removing of older models, that are replaced with new ones, from the market. In a attempt to make things clear to all our readers we applied different testing routine.

Lian Li Maxima 750W Power Supply Review
Overclockers Online has posted a new review on the Lian Li Maxima 750W Power Supply

The Maxima force is quite the bundle. This unit brushes off anything thrown in its direction, and maintains and incredibly quiet operational temperature, but more than performance this unit also looks good. With a black crinkle finish, the Maxima force has a subtle yet undeniable rugged appeal, yet at the same time elegance. Let's not forget, this is a Lian Li product. Fully sleeved cables and black connectors are a nice addition as well, and top off the deal.

Intel's Core i7 Power Plays
Lost Circuits posted an article on Intel's Core i7

There is a lot of somewhat half-baked information regarding the different factors contributing to Intel's Core i7 supply power, namely, which parts are powered from where and how all of this contributes to TDP. Moreover, the term TDP has been somewhat transient lately. leading to new definitions that are not exactly what the older terminology encompassed.

Palit Revolution 700 Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card Review
Benchmark Reviews posted a review on the Palit Revolution 700 Radeon HD 4870 X2 Video Card

Palit is not known for launching cutting-edge products ahead of the competition, as they can be described as the tortoise in a race against the hare. What Palit does do well is deliver a refined (read: not rushed) product to store shelves. The Palit Revolution 700 Deluxe is one such example, which offers the Radeon HD 4870 X2 with 2048 MB of GDDR5 video frame buffer and is cooled by a proprietary triple-slot thermal solution. In this article, Benchmark Reviews tests the AE5487XSF0545-PM9348 SKU against many of the latest high-performance graphics products available to the retail market.

Icy Dock MB664UEA-1S USB/Firewire HDD Enclosure Review
Tweaknews.net posted a review on the Icy Dock MB664UEA-1S USB/Firewire HDD Enclosure

I have to say this is one of the best enclosures I've had the opportunity to review and what won me over is Icy Dock's simple yet effective design. It actually took me longer to un-box everything than it did to install the hard drive, power it up, and begin copying files.

ATI HD 4870 1GB vs. NVIDIA GTX 260/216 896MB: Follow-Up
Techgage.com posted an article taking a fresh look at the HD 4870 1GB vs. GTX 260/216 debate, with the help of ATI's latest drivers.

Two weeks ago, we published a performance comparison between NVIDIA's GTX 260/216 and ATI's HD 4870 1GB. What we found was that NVIDIA had the upper-hand, both in performance, and efficiency. Today, we're re-testing ATI's card with their new 8.12 driver, to see if it can increase performance enough to sway our decision as to which is the better card.

CoolerMaster Aquagate MAX review CPU liquid cooling Review
The Guru of 3D posted a review on the CoolerMaster Aquagate MAX

Today a test on the CoolerMaster Aquagate MAX. This system is designed to be used inside your computer case for a completely self-contained system. If you are looking for a liquid cooling system to use for your performance computer the Cooler Master Aquagate Max may be just what you need.

Dual 1200mm radiator, excellent looking reservoir and 400 liter/h pump, nice thick tubing and a very glossy water-block. A very interesting fact is .. it's not that expensive.

So we'll take an overall already hot Core 2 Quad QX9770, overclock it to 4000 MHz .. and see where we end up temperatures wise :):

Zotac's Nitro OC Controller Review
bit-tech published a review of Zotac's Nitro OC Controller

The Zotac Nitro is an interesting piece of kit, but one with a massively limited appeal. A lot of that comes down to the price, which really is a lot when you think about what you're getting, but then if you're questioning how much it costs, it probably isn't the product for you. At over £75 though, there is no denying that this is an expensive e-peen pill to swallow.

But that isn't all that limits the unit's appeal -- it only works properly with Zotac graphics cards and we couldn't get the overclocking profile system working at all. The former is completely understandable and expected, but the latter isn't as forgiveable. Without the overclocking profiles, you're forced to go into the Nvidia Forceware control panel (or another third-party overclocking tool) to force your overclocking settings at start up. While that's not a problem in isolation, Zotac itself has said that the device is targeted more at the user who doesn't know their way around these types of applications and it's intended to introduce overclocking to a new group of users.

On the positive front, the Nitro allows you to tweak your graphics card's clock speeds on the fly while you're playing games, which may or may not be something that interests you. If it isn't then you're going to think the Nitro is a complete waste of money and, with that in mind, it's hard to recommend the Nitro as a standalone device.

However, when Zotac starts bundling it with select graphics cards, it might be worth considering for the warranty nugget the company throws at you. Ultimately, that is going to come down to price though because it's unlikely that Zotac will give the Nitro away for a nominal amount.

MSI's Eclipse SLI X58 motherboard Review
bit-tech published a review of MSI's Eclipse SLI X58 motherboard

This board is killing me because I want to like so much as the MSI team has clearly put in incredible effort and risk into designing the Eclipse SLI. Since just the P45 generation six months ago, so much has changed for the better which we need to give MSI credit for - the GreenPower core is excellent, the D-LED 2 is a good evolution, the board looks fantastic, it's stable with 12GB of memory and it's finally got a compelling market niche. The problem is that it's only 95 percent of the way there and it still needs attention to tidy up the loose ends - the BIOS and the software needs work, the cooling isn't wonderful, the D-LED 2 can evolve further, the X-Fi is either love or hate and the GreenPower Genie can go in the bin.

The difference between the MSI Eclipse SLI and Asus P6T Deluxe is that despite the Asus' shortcomings, underneath it was still very usable and yielded an eminently enjoyable experience. With the Eclipse SLI, we were using it and loving this or that feature then suddenly, BAM!, we hit a brick wall and were left to think "that could be better." There were enough of these moments to drop it out of a recommendation. Knowing the design schedule for X58 was even more incredibly intense than usual because it was a new platform, I just wish MSI had more time to sit back and think it through or use it more, before finalising things.

Buying one will still yield an enjoyable experience with tons to play with, but we reckon you'll still be having second thoughts about your £274 purchase when you look at other X58 boards on the market.

Palit Revolution R700 Deluxe HD4870X2 Review
OCC has published a new review on the Palit Revolution R700 Deluxe HD4870X2

Connectivity is the other issue that Palit has addressed. By having four connectivity options the value of the card goes up in my mind. Display Port, DVI, HDMI and an anolog VGA output give you all kinds of flexibility. Display Port is not a popular option yet and is not very common, this will, of course, change in the future and this card will have some measure of future proofing based on its capabilities and connectivity. Performance-wise the Palit R700 fared about the same in the benchmarking as the Sapphire HD4870x2. At the lower resolutions it was beaten up a bit by the green camp, but once you start playing in the higher resolutions the performance comes alive or it just does not drop off. Probably a little of both. Overclocking the cores only gave me a 63MHz improvement, not huge but it will pay dividends. The memory overclock was huge though at 196MHz for a max speed of 1146MHz, nothing to sneeze at. By taking the road less traveled Palit has taken the HD4870X2 to a new level both in size and cooling capability.
