Accelenation has posted an article looking at that old debate between mouse and joypad control.



Our character is moving around a rectangular corridor and the direction of aim is kept pointing toward the inside edge of the next turn (from where an enemy is likely to appear). Notice how the forward velocity vector (white line) and the sideways velocity vector (green line) must constantly change to maintain both a constant speed around the path and the point of aim.
