Optical mice were sold on the merit that they can work on almost any surface but accuracy depends on the surface. On a standard rubber backed cloth mats all optical mice perform well but the resistance due to friction does not add to the enjoyment of gaming at all. On shiny surfaces, for example a wooden finished computer desk friction was reduced but tracking errors occurred and sometimes the cursor would move diagonally instead of across. This is due to the pattern of the grain. On the Everglide however the mouse glides smoothly and effortlessly. I tested the Everglide pad with Logitech, Microsoft and Samsung optical mice, and all worked perfectly with no errors.
