Neoseeker has posted an article on Intel's Matrix RAID
The release of the 915 and 925 platforms earlier this year marked sweeping changes from Intel - a new socket, DDR2, PCI Express and limited implementations of BTX. One of the more intriguing features that has sat in the shadows somewhat is the ICH6R southbridge and specifically Matrix RAID. RAID controllers are generally nothing special - in the last couple years they have been ubiquitous in nearly all midrange to high end motherboards. In few instances does a person need everything in RAID1 or RAID0 but Intel's implementation is noteworthy as it allows for two different RAID partitions to be defined on a single pair of hard disks making RAID a lot more practical for the average end user. We take a look at the setup procedure including moving documents to the mirrored partition as well as performance benefits and hits of Intel's Matrix RAID - a feature that may be one of the more important developments in storage technology in the past couple years.Read more
