Gaming aside, the 6600 series found its way in many home theater PC’s and Windows XP Media Center 2005 Edition systems from the likes of Sony, Shuttle, and HP. This wasn’t too surprising since the 6600 series’ 3D performance was backed by NVIDIA’s superb PureVideo video processing algorithms and hardware acceleration for WMV9-HD and HDTV formats. Although the 6600 series were prime candidates for home theater PC usage, most conventional cards featured active cooling. The fans typically used were small, inefficient, and loud fans that would contribute to the overall system noise. Artic Cooling and Zalman produced quieter heatsink replacements at the cost of voiding the manufacturer’s warranty.
