A Six Month Redux After Building A 60+ System Basement Server/Computer Room

It's been just over six months since I completed construction on the large 60+ system server room where a ton of Linux benchmarking takes place just not for Phoronix.com but also the new LinuxBenchmarking.com daily performance tracking initiative and testing and development around our Phoronix Test Suite, Phoromatic, and OpenBenchmarking.org software. Here's a look back, a few recommendations to reiterate for those aspiring to turn their cellar into a server farm, and a few things I'd do differently next time around.

For those that missed the original article, back in March I wrote about turning a basement into a big Linux server room.

AMD A10 7870K CPU Review - Welcoming Competition

The A10-7870K is not any version of Carrizo. It relies on the same Steamroller cores as Kaveri, hence the title 'Kaveri Refresh', and is the same architecture as Kaveri. This is the "big daddy" of Kaveri, nicknamed Godvari by enthusiasts, since this is the highest clocked and best binned APU available on the market today.

be quiet! Silent Base 600 (Windowed) Review

be quiet! began its foray into the case market with the high end Silent Base 800 and now it is tackling the mid-range with the Silent Base 600. The 600 uses an ATX form factor, just like the 800, and launches in two versions. There is a regular model with plain side panels as well as this Silent Base 600 Window which uses the same double glazed technology we saw in the Silent Base 800 Window.

be quiet! Silent Base 600 Window Mid-Tower Chassis Review

be quiet! have worked hard over the years to establish themselves as a premium brand and it’s safe to say they’ve done just that. Time and time again we’ve seen award-winning products, from their enthusiast grade powers supplies, incredible CPU coolers, high-end fans and their previous chassis, the Silent Base 800. All their products have been exceptionally well designed, built and more important of all, they all had a focus on being as quiet as possible.

Following in the footsteps of its big brother, the Silent Base 600 looks like the ideal solution for a mid-tower. It ticks all the right boxes in terms of specifications for those wanting a desktop gaming PC. It features high-quality be quiet! fans, room for high-end hardware, a sound-proofed design and even a dual-layer side panel window, to give you a look inside the chassis, without compromising on noise suppression.

be quiet! Silent Base 600 Window Review

Last year be quiet! entered the computer chassis market with the Silent Base 800. This was regarded as quite a bold move by the German-based brand, SB 800 is a rather large case, packed with lots of features but furthermore to this, the chassis market is fiercely competitive with an onslaught of brands which have already gained notoriety, recognition and prominence.

Well, today be quiet! are back with yet another addition to the Silent Base series. The Silent Base 600 Window is a condensed version of its bigger brother the SB 800. Although smaller in size, SB 600 still packs in a number of interesting and useful features including a fan controller, dual fan configuration, double-glazed side window and noise reduction material on all major panels for low-noise operation.

D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender Review

Whether someone is at home, work, school, hotel, or sporting events, chances are they would love to be connected to Wi-Fi. Cellular networks are much better than they were years ago, but there’s still nothing like a quality Wi-Fi connection. Like every radio, Wi-Fi access points only have so much output power, and even at ideal power levels for an access point, it may not extend to the far reaches of an area. A common way to reach hard to reach areas is with an extender. D-Link Wi-Fi Audio Extender will help extend a 2.4GHz b/g/n Wi-Fi network and also has a little bonus, audio streaming!

GeForce GTX 980 Ti Round-Up Review With MSI, ASUS, And EVGA

Although the $999 GeForce GTX Titan X is currently the King of the single-GPU hill, NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX 980 Ti is the far more palatable option for most hardcore enthusiasts, due to its lower $649 starting price point. As we showed you in our initial coverage of the GeForce GTX 980 Ti, however, the card is still a monster in terms of performance. It typically outpaces AMD’s flagship Radeon R9 Fury X (at least with DX11 titles) and it finishes only a few percentage points behind the much pricier Titan X.

NVIDIA’s partners have also taken the GeForce GTX 980 Ti and morphed it into something even more powerful, thanks to their custom cooling solutions and factory overclocks. Virtually all of NVIDIA’s major board partners have custom GeForce GTX 980 Ti cards on the market, three of which we’re going to show you here – The ASUS STRIX, MSI Gaming 6G, and the EVGA Super Clocked Edition...

How to Fix an iPhone Yourself

It happened to me. Over the course of a few weeks, the angle I needed to plug the lightning cable into my iPhone 5S got more and more specific, until one day it just wouldnt charge. No amount of wiggling, positioning, angling, swapping cables, swearing, or praying could fix it. The Internet recommended cleaning the port with a vacuum cleaner but it did nothing; it was dead. Unfortunately for me, my iPhone is more than 18 months old. It was out of warranty. If I wanted to get it fixed, I was going to be paying a lot of money...

The Moto X Style packs a 5.7-inch 1440p display and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 SoC, alongside 3 GB of RAM and a 3,000 mAh battery. Nexus 6P vs iPhone 6S Plus

The new phablet flagships go head-to-head. Phablets are, it seems, here to stay. In the past month alone we've seen new devices from two major players, Apple's iPhone 6S Plus and Google's Nexus 6P.

The timing is almost certainly no coincidence. The iPhone 6S Plus and Nexus 6P are effectively launchpads for rival operating systems, iOS 9 and Android 6.0 Marshmallow respectively. Still, that's only one aspect of these competing plus-sized smartphones, so to find out which is more worthy of buyers' attentions, we've compared and contrasted all of their most important specs.

Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX Mid-Tower Chassis Review

Phanteks are quickly becoming one of my favourite chassis manufacturers. The Enthoo range is one of the most capable enthusiast series on the market, which ticks all the right boxes for those who want a high-end system, with minimal or no fuss in terms of component compatibility, high-end build quality and flawless designs. The latest model, the Enthoo EVOLV ATX, offers support for (you guessed it) full-ATX and EATX motherboards, giving you more room for multiple graphics cards and a whole host of other devices.
