I've thought about illuminating my case badge for some time now. The problem with a project like this is properly diffusing the light source. I've seen kits for sale online that use Electroluminescent panels and incandescent bulbs. They normally sell for between $15 to $20 plus shipping. I wanted to use a white 5mm LED and keep the assembly as simple as possible. I felt that if I could find the right material I could get an even amount of light across the back of the badge.
