With OS X Mavericks, Apple showed it still had tricks up its sleeve regarding desktop operating systems. Long-time apps like Finder got welcome upgrades and rubbed shoulders with newcomers from iOS, such as iBooks and Maps. Multiple display support was given an overhaul, and iCloud Keychain made its debut, to help Mac and iOS users keep regularly used online details safe. There were big improvements to battery life and app efficiency, and to ensure everyone with a supported Mac could upgrade with a minimum of fuss, Apple scrapped price tags entirely, making Mavericks the first free major OS X update. But what happens next? Gigabyte R9 290X WindForce OC 4GB Graphics Card Review @ eTeknix
After months of rumours and media hype, AMD’s new flagship graphics card is here. We have a launch-day review for you guys to read and we’re putting this brand new GPU through its paces on the eTeknix graphics card test system. We’re very excited to bring you this review because everyone loves to see how a new flagship GPU performs and what it can deliver, even if you have no intention of ever buying it. The AMD R9 290X is a brand new GPU crafted from the same 28nm process as the HD 7000 series but using a revised architecture design (GCN 2.0 vs GCN) and a new GPU die codenamed “Hawaii”.

The AMD R9 290X brings a number of new features to the table which we will cover briefly but first let’s check a run down of the specifications. AMD’s R9 290X is a big step up from the R9 280X (HD 7970) featuring 768 more stream processors, 1.5 more TFLOPS of compute performance, 32GB/s more memory bandwidth, double the number of ROPs and much more. A default clock speed of up to 1GHz on the core and up to 5GHz on the memory is deployed, this will vary dynamically as it is adjusted by AMD’s revised PowerTune technology, which leads us on nicely to the next part – the new features of the R9 290X.

TRITTON PRO+ True 5.1 Surround Headset @ NikKTech
No matter how many times I've worn a headset either for regular use while at home or on the go or for test purposes i still can't say that i like the feeling (always compared to speaker systems) but i do recognize that it's a necessary technology with more pros than cons. However that being said with so many 5.1 and 7.1 virtual surround sound headset models swarming the market it's not very easy to locate one that makes use more than just the two typical drivers found in stereo models (many people may not even know of their existence). Quite a few manufacturers have tried their luck with "real" surround sound headsets but just a handful have actually managed to win the crowds with their superior positioning audio and quality. TRITTON is amongst those brands (perhaps the oldest one still around that focuses solely in the manufacture of gaming headsets) and today we will be taking a very thorough look on their latest PRO+ True 5.1 Surround Headset.

Knack PlayStation 4 Review @ eTeknix
This week we take another dive into the next-gen world of PlayStation 4 and one of the consoles launch titles, Knack. Developed by Japan Studio, as well as having a heavy helping hand from Sony’s legendary Mark Cerny, the game was released along side the PlayStation 4 in both European and US markets, and will of course follow the Feb 22nd 2014 release in Japan.

We’ve seen many teaser videos, gameplay clips and more from Knack over the last year at various game shows, through the numerous live streams that were held by Sony, press briefing and more. Everything we saw looked fairly promising thanks to the details graphics, cool looking characters and the fact that Mark Cerny had a hand in it. The only thing that worried me was that it all looked a little simplistic to play.

Silverstone Raven RVZ01 Mini-ITX Chassis Review @ eTeknix
Silverstone have long been the masters of small form factor PC cases, in fact in many ways their chassis are some of the best in the world no matter what form factor you look at. Their Raven series is one of the most robust, versatile and our right cool ranges of gaming chassis products ever created and while they’ve often been focused on large full-tower and ultra-tower designs, their latest incarnation looks set to shrink things down with a product that wants to take a seat in the premium real estate under your TV.

With the sudden increase in demand and popularity of small form factor gaming builds, especially with the current interesting in SteamBox builds, there are countless new chassis product hitting the market to fill the void. Sure there has always been a market for these smaller cases, starting off with HTPC builds, NAS boxes, media streaming systems, and in the last few years people wanting to use things such as Steams BigScreen Mode. SteamOS however looks set to unify a lot of these features, giving you a native OS that is tailored to gaming on the big screen, and Silverstone are going all in with the RVZ01, which they hope will be the ultimate choice for a self-built SteamBox, or just any compact gaming rig.
