Intel Meltdown and Spectre-proof CPUs to launch this year

Confirms CEO in an earnings call, following record quarterly and yearly revenue figures. Intel shared its fourth quarter 2017 financial results last night. The figures looked attractive, with outstanding growth and record Q4 revenue of $17.1 billion and record full-year revenue of $62.8 billion. Additionally Intel was pleased to report to shareholders that it would raise the quarterly cash dividend by 10 per cent. In afterhours trading Intel shares have responded well and have been up as much as 5.3 per cent so far (reaching $47.71). The last time Intel shares were valued so highly was back in November 2000.

As we have shown in past benchmarks, while current generation Linux games with current Linux GPU drivers using the Vulkan API rather than OpenGL may not be significantly faster with higher-end hardware right now, the impact of this newer Khronos graphics API tends to be more profound on lower-end hardware, especially when it comes to lightening the load on the CPU. Following the recent Pentium vs. Ryzen 3 Linux gaming tests, I carried out some fresh benchmarks looking at OpenGL vs. Vulkan on the Ryzen 3 1200 quad-core CPU with NVIDIA and Radeon graphics.
