Last year the Intel introduced the Next Unit of Computing (NUC) and we were amazed by the power, capabilities and performance of what you could do with a four inches square. PC users around the world quickly found out that the Intel NUC was small yet powerful and used them as general use PCs, home theater PCs, media servers, and/or a multitude of other configurations.The first generation NUC left us impressed, but there was certainly room for improvement. If you have lived in the United Kingdom for any length of time then you will already be aware of The Daily Mail newspaper on some level. While they employ some great journalists they do tend to take the moral high ground and can even appear to be lecturing their readers on how they feel they should be living their lives. Shortly after General Motors bought Daewoo's automotive branch they started making a car in South Korea known as the Kalos.It was successful enough that they decided to bring it to the Unite States. In 2004 this car became known to many of use as the Chevrolet Aveo. It was designed to be a small and fuel efficient city car. Unfortunately for GM it quickly earned a reputation as an old lady car and garnered some nicknames such as the "A-gay-o" and the "Pregnant Skateboard". It's nearly impossible for a car's name to shed it's stigma. Afterall, the name "Pinto" is still synonymous with exploding gas tanks. But there was nothing wrong with the Aveo's design so GM decided that the best course would be to give it a new name, a face list and a total 180 on the marketing campaign.

Phanteks only came onto the scene a few years ago and yet they have made a lasting impression within the cooling segments with the PH-TC14PE and other notable releases. It’s rare to see success right from the start but Phanteks appear to be doing everything right and today sees this cooling prodigy take on the computer chassis market in their very first attempt at bringing to shelf a high-end offering.

The Enthoo Series is a new venture for Phanteks and the Primo is the first case within this new range. Phanteks have boldly taken on the high-end by bringing to market a gargantuan full tower chassis comprising of steel and aluminium. Primo has been carefully designed with water cooling at the forefront of planning, the internal layout lends itself to having multiple areas for housing different sized radiators which will be music to cooling enthusiast’s ears.

Western Digital RED WD30EFRX 3TB SATA III HDD @ NikKTech

There's no denying that the popularity of Network Attached Storage devices (or NAS Servers as i like to call them) has increased at such a degree over the past 3 years that even regular consumers purchase them for home use whether that's for downloading files from the internet or as media servers. However due to their design as complete closed systems there haven't really been many hardware components or peripherals released aimed especially at NAS servers but something tells me that this may change sooner rather than later. Western Digital was perhaps the first manufacturer to take a significant step towards providing special HDDs for use with NAS Servers featuring low temperatures, noise levels and power consumption without really sacrificing speed in the process. Well it did take quite a while for us to get one of these latest special HDD models that belong in the RED line but it was well worth the wait since we managed to secure the 2nd largest model available namely the 3TB variant.

AMD "Hawaii" R9 290X GPU Specifications Revealed @ TechPowerUp

Here are the first set of specifications for AMD's next high-end GPU silicon, on which the company will no doubt carve out several SKUs from. Codenamed "Hawaii," and slated for unveiling on the 26th in, well, Hawaii, the 28 nm chip is what AMD will take NVIDIA's GK110 silicon head-on with. It is based on AMD's second-generation Graphics CoreNext micro-architecture.

With an estimated die-area of 430 mm (18% bigger than "Tahiti,") the chip physically features 2,816 stream processors (SPs) spread across 44 clusters with 64 SPs each (a 37.5% increase over "Tahiti"). The chip features four independent raster engines, compared to two independent ones on "Tahiti." This could translate into double the geometry processing muscle as "Tahiti," with four independent tessellation units. The memory interface of the chip is expected to be 384-bit wide, based on the GDDR5 specification. Given the way TMUs are arranged on chips based on this architecture, one can deduce 176 TMUs on the chip. The ROP count could be 32 or 48. The chip will feature hardware support for DirectX 11.2, including the much hyped shared resources (mega-texture) feature.
