When people hear the name Xeon, one phrase immediately comes to mind: high-priced server processor. Ever since the Pentium was released, Intel has been releasing processors to their popular Pentium line geared towards the server market starting with the Pentium Pro. The Xeon processors, which have never drastically strayed from their mainstream brethren in a pure design sense, have offered a wealth of server-friendly features that have made them attractive to business customers.

The Xeon processors in the past have offered expanded memory support, extra management features, multiprocessor support up to 8-way, and the most well known feature, massive cache sizes up to 2MB in size. All of these features have made the Pentium II and III Xeons quite popular in the server and very high-end workstation marketplace.
