ASUS Maximus IX Formula Review

With the Maximus IX Formula, ASUS launches the successor of the Maximus VIII Formula, which was based on the previous generation Z170 chipset from Intel. Intel Core i7-6900K Processor Review

The Intel Core i7-6950X and Core i7-6900K processor are aimed at those that need as many processing cores that they can get on a desktop platform. If four or six cores aren’t enough and you have the proper funds, you can move up to an eight or ten core processor. Thanks to Intel Hyper-Threading technology you’ll actually end up with double that number when it comes to threads, so you can run up to 20 simultaneous operations at once! All four of these HEDT parts have Intel Turbo Boost Max 3.0 and the good news on that front is that Microsoft has been offering native support for that since Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607 and beyond). If you are running an older OS you’ll need to install a separate driver on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and earlier Windows 10 releases. You can find that driver here if you are needing it.

For those that have unlimited cash and want the most cores available, the Intel Core i7-6950X for $1635 is the easy choice. If you actually have a budget the Intel Core i7-6900K is an interesting processor as it costs roughly 37% less than the 6950X and has faster clocked cores despite having 20% fewer. The Core i7-6900K’s base and boost clock speeds are each 200 MHz higher than the Core i7-6950X 10-core processor, so it might actually be faster on lightly threaded applications. Both processors have 40 PCI Express lanes, so you don’t have to worry about the limitations of the Intel Core i7-6800 on Intel X99 platforms.

Intel response to Ryzen is Kaby Lake-X

Original rumored started by Canard PC site described two new CPUs, the Core i7-7740K and the Core i5-7640K, both having a 100W+ TDP as well as support for Hyper-Threading but, according to fresh information coming from PCGameshardware.de, it now appears that these will not be the Kaby Lake-S chips but rather the new Kaby Lake-X.
Based on the new LGA2066 socket, both new Kaby Lake-X chips will be quad-core chips with 112W TDP, have up to 8MB of L3 cache and DDR4-2666 memory support.

NVIDIA SHIELD TV (2017) Review: Smart Home, 4K HDR, And Game Streaming

NVIDIA announced an updated SHIELD TV bundle back at the Consumer Electronics Show, which offers a host of new features thanks to some fresh hardware and an Android Nougat based OS upgrade. The updated SHIELD TV, however, isn’t totally new. Internally, the device was still packing NVIDIA’s Tegra X1 SoC like the original, which, even after a couple of years on the market, is still an exceptionally strong performer. The new SHIELD TV also has the same memory and base storage configurations, and the SHIELD Remote is similar too. However, NVIDIA significantly shrunk down the chassis by eliminating accommodations for an internal hard drive, and lopped the micro-SD expansion slot off the machine as well, though you still get USB 3 connectivity for storage expansion. NVIDIA did, however, also developed a new wireless controller for the SHIELD that offers exceptional battery life and – among other things – a built in near-field microphone to help leverage its Google Assistant
integration that is also now a part of the NVIDIA SHIELD TV experience. New applications, including Amazon Video complete with 4K UHD HDR support, tons of games, and additional streaming capabilities have been brought to the platform as well...

It comes with a number of interesting features, as well as a fancy volume control hub that sits neatly on your desktop. There is even some backlighting – though unlike a lot of peripherals out there at the moment, this one is not RGB compliant.
