The stick itself is comprised of eight modules, each one 64mb in size (64x8=512). So why are 1GB DIMMs stacked? And why don't we see 2GB sticks? And what's the density limit per module? Who knows. But at least one reason why we don't have higher capacity DIMMs is the same reason a 512mb SODIMM costs about three times as much. At this stage, it's simply not economical.
