Microsoft tomorrow will release Windows 2000 Data Center to manufacturers, bringing to a close the longest-running development project in the software maker´s history.
Data Center is the last new flavor of the Windows 2000 family of high-end operating system products. The desktop and lower-end server versions of Windows 2000 were released to much fanfare last February.
The basic version of Windows 2000 is designed to run corporate desktops and servers, as well as the computers that power Web sites. Data Center supports the highest-end computers powering data warehouses, e-commerce Web sites, and large-scale science and engineering applications, according to Microsoft.
