AMD and NVIDIA making cryptocurrency mining cards

The cryptocurrency craze is hitting yet another couple of waves with Bitcoin reaching a record $2900 USD in value, while Ethereum is climbing up as it doesn't require ASIC specific graphics cards. I've personally just written an article where I'm using 4 x different PCs with 11 x GPUs between them and it's estimated to make me $900 this month alone.

FLIR ONE Pro Thermal Camera Review

We had written about the launch of the third-generation FLIR ONE along with the FLIR ONE Pro (and other professional thermal imagers) as part of our 2017 CES coverage. Today, FLIR is officially putting up the 3rd Gen. FLIR ONE and the FLIR ONE Pro for sale. Both are devices that plug into a mobile device (Android or iOS), turning them into versatile thermal cameras. While the FLIR ONE caters to DIY folks and home owners, the FLIR ONE Pro serves the market segment that requires advanced features (including contractors, home inspectors, plumbers etc.) As part of the press, we were provided a preview sample of the Android version of the FLIR ONE Pro. Read on for our hands-on review.

Galax GTX 1070 Katana: Single-slot Graphics

Galax's GTX 1070 Katana caught our attention for counting itself among the few single-slot gaming graphics cards available today. In fact, to the best of our knowledge, this is the only single-slot, air-cooled GTX 1070 in the world, as anything with a thermal design power of 75 watts or higher is typically paired with a dual-slot cooler for the added heat dissipation.

MSI X370 SLI PLUS Review

The X370 SLI PLUS comes out as a sleek, blacked out motherboard with all the primary benefits of the X370 chipset, including a host of the latest USB standards, robust heatsinks, high grade components, robust electro-static defences including the use of 'Steel Armour', and of course the high-speed M.2 32Gb/s slot. The primary and secondary PCIe x16 lanes are each given a triple slot clearance to give users optimal positioning so content creators (and of course, gamers) can get the best out of the use of a multi-graphics card setup.

Patriot Viper V370 and V361 Headsets

When it comes to headsets, I’m typically in the $70 range when suggesting or looking for anything. We rarely get anything cheaper in both because a lot of the big names don’t even try to compete at low price points and because what you do find is normally not very exciting. Well a while back Patriot reached out to me about checking out two of their new headsets and I signed up. They sent over the Viper V370 and the Viper V361. I wasn’t really sure what to expect other than more budget friendly headsets. Well, they came in, I got busy and I’m just now getting around to talking about them so let’s see what is different about them, test them out, then talk a little about where they fit in the market.

Phanteks Enthoo Evolv mATX Tempered Glass Case Review

Phanteks’ line of Enthoo Evlov cases has been one of our favorites over the past couple of years. This year they are giving the tempered glass treatment to many of the models in the series. Today we are going to be checking out the tempered glass version of the Evolv Micro-ATX case. This is the successor to the first ever Evolv case and combines 3mm aluminum with dual tempered glass side panels. This case has already proven to be one of the best out there and adding tempered glass panels is going to make it even better. Phanteks has also added RGB LEDs to the front of the case and around the power button, which you can sync with your motherboard software. Let’s take a closer look at all this tempered glass and see if the Enthoo Evolv remains to be one of the best choices for Micro-ATX system builders.

Philips Brilliance BDM4037UW Review

Super-sized 4K UHD. Can a PC monitor ever be too big? That's a question we hadn't really considered until we got to spend some quality time with Philips' latest 40in behemoth, the BDM4037UW.

We've played with our fair share of 34in screens over the years, but 40in is a big step up and the increase in size presents a few unexpected challenges. A display of this magnitude will dwarf most desks, and if you tend to sit close to the screen, you'll need to get used to looking up, down and side to side in order to see the full picture.

Seasonic PRIME 850W Gold PSU Review

Today we take a look at another member of the Seasonic PRIME Gold family – this time in a 850 watt capacity. The PRIME Gold series is more cost effective than the PRIME Platinum and Titanium units while still offering stellar build quality, a pure modular layout and high grade Japanese capacitors.

Synology DS916+ NAS

The Synology DS916+ is a mid-range NAS, aimed at small businesses or home users requiring more power than most consumer grade units. The quad core 64-bit Intel Pentium N3710 and options of 2/8GB RAM suggest that this is more than a traditional file server NAS. This choice of CPU allows for AES-NI encryption acceleration (an otherwise CPU intensive task), along with the power to transcode video if you’re using this as a media server (H.264 and H.265 acceleration). There are 4 drive bays which support 3.5/2.5” drives (both HDD and SSD), resulting in a max. storage capacity of 40TB.
